In order to operate a vehicle in the US, you must first become a safe driver. Once you master safe driving techniques, you may apply for a CDL driver's license, which will let you drive alone. In the US, the CDL age restriction varies by state and ranges from 16 to 18. CDL age limit is at least 21 years old to apply for an interstate CDL.

You must present identification and residency verification while applying for a driver's license. Some states will additionally need documentation of authorized U.S. residents.

To demonstrate your ability to drive and park safely on the road, you must pass a driving exam, a vision test, and a theory test in order to earn a CDL.

How to Get a CDL

All states require that minors under the age of 18 get a learner's permit before they may submit an application for a driver's license. You can drive with a licensed adult who is at least 21 years old if you have a learner's permit. No of your age, you may need to obtain a learner's permit in several states if you are applying for your first license.

Most states allow teenagers between the ages of 14 and 16 to apply for a learner's permit. Young people must pass a vision exam and a computer-based test on traffic laws in order to receive a learner's permit. Before requesting a driver's license, a learner's permit must be kept for 6 to 9 months.

Are Class A CDL Drivers Subject to Any Age Restrictions?

The same guidelines that apply to other CDL classes must be followed by all CDL Class A truck drivers. You must be 18 years old to drive inside your own state, and you must be 21 to drive outside of it. Any CDL license you want to earn is subject to these age limits.

There is no established age restriction for truck driving. A few things are exceptions. Even while certain jurisdictions may take an older driver's over-65 license more seriously, as long as you can stay healthy and pass a medical check, you should be allowed to drive far into your later years.
