HMD Trucking's roots lie in March 1998, in the Chicago vicinity. It was the brainchild of Henry Malukas, along with his wife, Daiva. Emphasizing superb educational aspects for drivers and significant safety ratings, this service made its mark. With accumulated experience numbering 22 years as of now, HMD Trucking has undertaken a journey of metamorphosis. This journey has contributed to its success in the realms of contract hauling and exceeding road haulage capabilities.

Typical Chicago based company based off the discussion I had with the recruiter, pay could be way better and the “safety” and “mileage” bonuses could be made of your regular pay if they were that easy to attain but you won’t get them that’s why they refer to them as bonuses
2 months here and so far I have no complaints. Never sitting and waiting on dispatch. Newer trucks. First month and achieved mileage bonus and nominated for Allstar driver. It's really nice to be recognized and not just a truck number. Definitely a breathe of fresh air and I'm happy where I'm at.
Well I've been with the company almost a year now...... Pretty much I can sum it up all in a few words that it's just one of greatest companies out here
Going on 3 months (dry van team) Pay as promised consistently, great dispatch, equipment great. Home as needed so far. Only minor wish bump truck speed up 1-2 mph for passing. But one of the first companies I’ve worked for where I have no complaints
i had an overweight load, they told me to drop off 1 pallet(2000 pounds) at the dumpster. so i did. don,t use fuel card, they add additional fuel receipts and you have to pay for it. They also stole my paychecks. They screwed on my ups load trl.brakes and wheels on fire on the road and i don't make delivery on time.chicago-miami. hmd truck 3838
They always give me the best routes. No touch frieght. Brand new trucks and dispatch is top notch.
I don't know anything about this company at all except that this driver pulled up right in front of the docks so as to make it difficult for others to back in to load. He went and checked in and is still sitting right in front of the docks. There is a 3 acre lot on both sides to park and plenty of room. Not professional at all. He was still in the exact same place an hour later. In reply to owner, It is not my job to tell your driver's how to have common sense or courtesy. The only reason you'd have written back what you did was knowing that had I said something your driver would've been offended and one or both of us would be in jail. Wouldn't it be easier to just tell your driver's the simplest thing is to just pay attention. Look around. Don't do things you wouldn't want done to you. If it were me I'd just tell the driver to look around and see if there is a place to park that doesn't hinder progress but that's me. I've only been doing this for 25 years. Another thing. I didn't say you were only worth one star as a company. I stated that I don't know anything about this company except this one incident. Now I have 2 incidents to warrant a low review. For the fact that you did respond, I will say 2 stars because the management payed attention enough to reply. Only 2 because you are wrong in that it isn't my place to tell YOUR employees how to do their job. It is yours.
A LOT OF 5 STAR REVIEWS which is kind of weird and gives the vibe that they are paying for them. Anyways pay wise this company is better than the mega carriers @65CPM but it's forced dispatch which they don't mention at all not even when getting hired or in Orientation. "Home Weekends" to anyone would mean Saturday and Sunday off right? Nope you're just home for 34hrs for your reset hahaha just one night to sleep in your home and take care of home life. Dispatch will also advice you to skip your 30min if it means getting to delivery on time and also you will never meet your dispatcher because they are not in the country all over seas so accent is a dead giveaway. 98% of all loads are LIVE so you will be doing a lot of sitting around but it's okay the detention pay is amazing @$15hr after 2 hours hahahaha unbelievable.(written on December 2023).Finally decided to leave due to dispatch issues asked for a new dispatcher denied that. Company chooses dispatchers over drivers and only care when you're already going out door going local where I get paid for my time $33+hr home every night not dealing with dumb dispatch across the world. (Last update February 2024)
The foreign “Security Guard” who sits in the booth, needs a customer service class on how to treat people who visit. Rude, unprofessional and blatant disrespectful is not what this company should have representing them as a first impression. Downright humiliating experience two times in a row.
Very good company. If I want to go home, I get to go home. If I get sick and can't drive, I'm not pressured. Pay is always right, bonuses aren't impossible. New Peterbilts with fridges. 2k to 3k miles every week. And they allow pets! (FYI I was grandfathered in, they have limits now) I'll let you know this is a real review by giving you the bad. The yard sucks. 1 usable shower, 1 toilet, you pay for laundry and the yard itself is tiny. Stay on the road. I've been here for over a year and have no plans to leave. *edit I forgot to mention the shop is a nightmare to deal with. So there's that.
Great place to work honestly. I've been here almost a year and everything is awesome. Good equipment steady miles some weeks are better than others but that's trucking. What I was told while being recruited is actually what happens here and I gotta tell you I've been out here 15 years and worked for quite a few companies and it's very strange for a company to actually carry through on what they promise but this company does.
I can confidently say that this company is one of the best trucking companies out there. From the moment I joined the team, I was impressed with the professionalism and dedication of everyone involved in this business. Firstly, the management team at HMD Trucking is highly competent and efficient. They provide excellent support and guidance to all their drivers, ensuring that we have the necessary resources and equipment to get our jobs done. They are also highly responsive to any issues that may arise and work tirelessly to resolve them in a timely manner. Secondly, the fleet of trucks at HMD Trucking is top-notch. The trucks are well-maintained, reliable, and equipped with the latest technology and safety features. This ensures that we are able to transport our goods safely and efficiently, while also ensuring the safety of other road users. Finally, the work culture at HMD Trucking is simply amazing. The team is highly supportive, and there is a real sense of camaraderie among the drivers. Everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand, and there is a strong sense of teamwork and collaboration. In conclusion, I highly recommend HMD Trucking to anyone looking for a reliable and professional trucking company. They truly go above and beyond to ensure that their drivers are well taken care of, and I feel proud to be a part of this amazing team!.
Been here for a month and it’s honestly been great. Great miles great communication… I even had an issue with the truck and it was fixed immediately… my reason for three stars was because I came here to team drive but my partner had no experience they still said they would hire her and made her drug screen do videos and all and then the last minute told her they wanted to see me drive for a month before they hire her smh… due to that she had to go with a different company and killed our plans and now I’m kind of stuck here but it has been great and hopefully it stays that way but recruiting department gets 2 for their lies hence the 3 stars lol
Man let's just start by saying I normally don't do this but I had share goodness with so much bad in today's world. I've been to prob 5or6 different companies and HMD is by far my best experience in delivering what they said they would. Huge shout out to my dispatchers Daniel and one week with Tommy. I never sat longer then 2 hrs, I always got home on my home time, I never had an issue with my check and I got the miles I wanted.. truck ran like a champ, trailers were almost new and I wasn't hounded for every little thing. There's no such thing as a perfect company but this was close to it. I'm writing this with sadness because I have to leave for family reasons beyond my control. But if you do right by them they will take care of you. They even got me a flight home and a way to the airport. Thats top tier in my book.
It’s a good company, consistent lot of miles which comes out to about $1,800 a week. The shop is good and so Is the equipment. Thank you guys! I am glad that your dispatcher/my friend advised you
Love this company. Best place I’ve ever worked. This is a family here. The shop is on point they work hard to keep us running. New equipment inverter APU refrigerator and CB. Dispatch is on point. Miles are here. Hometime when you need it, never any issues. The terminal is a little small but they do keep it nice and tidy. Showers bathrooms washer and dryer vending machines free coffee. We do have a loaner vehicle so if you’re here and you need to run in town to do some shopping you can.
Former Driver here. Beware of this company. If you have ANY other options for driving jobs I highly recommend you take them over this place. Their bonus is contingent on miles (11,500/month minimum) and a score on the netradyne system. Not your actual safely driven miles. In the 5 months I was here I got the bonus once. I was oushed to drive unsafe equipment (when I had my truck assigned the brakes were almost gone all around and was made to drive it from NC back to IL). And after I left yesterday they had 2 incidents I was told that werent my fault and to not worry about them, be marked as "at fault" and the company I had signed with refused to bring me on because of it. This place is a trap. If you come here they will ensure you will bot get another driving job.
Always kept me rolling. Dispatcher would take care of any needs I had. Just a phone call or message away. Trucks are kind of unique too. Everyone takes care of you in the shop too.
Is horrible. Have to complete 840 hours of training with only being paid 17 cpm . Dispatch will have you sit up to 16 hours sometimes and not even pay layover or anything
Just stay away from this company. It’s probably the worst company I ever worked for in my whole career. They are not paying drivers what they’re advertising.
Overall, HMD is a great company to work for! In the transportation industry, there are a lot of factors outside of a drivers as well as a companies control. 95% of the issues I've had on the road, at shippers and/or receivers, or just in general are all part of the job and not a reflection of the company. In my opinion HMD does a great job of maintaining their trucks. Since I've started HMD has always kept me moving and in 9 months I have not had to wait on my dispatcher to find my next load longer than maybe an hour, and I believe that only happened one time. All other times I have been dispatched my next load while I was still completing the one I was on. HMD has done a great job of accommodating my schedule when I requested time off, or requested to be in a certain city for an event that I wanted or needed to go to. When I have had mechanical issues with my vehicle HMD did a great job communicating with me a plan to get it taken care of and get me back on the road in a timely manner. Even when issues have came up after hours, HMD always had someone available to answer the phone and address the issue. When I first started, I found it impressive that before they re-issue a truck from one driver to another, they have it professionally detailed and ready for use. Overall, my experience with HMD has been great and I would highly recommend this company!
Gotta like chicago, nice trucks good pay almost always on time for home time, wash your truck at blue beacon once a month, fuel at pilot flying j, 401k after a year
1800 miles a week average no detention pay no breakdown pay old wore out peterbilt 579 with a laundry list of issues shop argues with you, doesn't believe you when you tell them about issues with the truck dispatch lies about appointment times, makes you sit on a load but doesn't pay you for it company chooses to spend their profits on vanity projects and expensive toys instead of paying their drivers, then complains about the market and driver turnover
HMD could be an amazing place to work for except for communication issues. They don't listen. They have driver advocate in place but doesn't do any good if they only hear one side of story. Or someone new steps in and doesn't know the history of situation and makes uninformed decisions.
What is the best part of working at the company? Timing, office, dispatching, Communication. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I didn’t have any stress with this company What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Great, American-European culture What is a typical day like for you at the company? Great and Breathy and respectful
It’s a good company, consistent 2,000 miles which comes out to about 1,000 dollars a week. The shop is good and so Is the equipment. The only thing is this company is stingy with layovers and won’t pay them unless the broker does which leaves you without pay.
Pros, honest pay scale and good miles, great staff and always avaliable. Cons: they have alot of foreign people working from a call center and it's easy to have misunderstood or miscommunication on both ends
Nice equipment plenty of miles great dispatchers a nice owner they keep you moving. Great home time family oriented company. Great bonus structure and they allow you pets and riders.
They alter your past days logs to suit them. Wrote me up for misuse of PC. Then 10 days later made me use PC to complete the last 6.5t hours of a load for UPS. They give you great miles because it benefits them more that is the way everything is done
Here's a place that welcomes new employees. Your not just a body in a place of employment, your part of an ever growing family. Here you perform your hired as duties, and are recognized for your hard work. Definitely, a breath of fresh air. Thanks HMD, for allowing me to become one of yours.
If you like to run 3,000+ miles per week with a 34 every weekend, this company is for you. 90% Midwest runs to east coast. No major city driving. 80% brokered, live load/unload. Dispatchers are overseas but super good at their job. Mine kept me moving with little down time. This company works with the same brokers who’s shipper/receiver load/unload pretty quick. On average, I would sit at customer for 1-2 hours max. But they do pay detention after 2 hours. Pets allowed with ZERO deposit. Driver relations is top notch and will always work with you if you have any issues. Equipment is nice, 2020+ Peterbilt 579, with mini fridge & inverter. .60 cpm base + .10 cpm if you do 11,500 or more miles per month.
I did make money with hmd not a bad company just they lease purchase program is trash company side not to bad 60 cpm I learned alot there only way I'll go back is they change they lease program to percentage
It's not really easy being an CDL driver and I've worked for several companies in my 8 years driving. HMD is so different from any company I've ever worked for. Good money, easy to understand pay structure, great trucks that are kept in top working order, actual home time and above all a true work family. Mary the recruiter is a great I am making money and I am happy to be working with a great company like HMD Trucking
A good workplace to be everybody will help you, at any time. I have been working for HMD for a little over 2 years and I love it! They pay you extremely well, which is why they expect you to do extremely good work. My manager is a great guy and the rest of the drivers couldn’t be a cooler group of people. HMD rocks!!!
Great Company to work for. They give you the best equipment to make your job much easier and home time is super flexible. Also if you want the miles they’ll give them to you.Never had a single issue with my paycheck just like clockwork. HMD is a trustworthy company to work for, you treat them right they'll treat you right!! Hands down best trucking company I've ever worked for in a 15+ yr career.
One of the best companies to work for. Top pay and get you the miles that you want. They've always got me home on time and got me home a couple times for emergencies. Dispatch always answer the phone when you need them and get the job done. They have the best trucks in trucking and dispatcher so if you looking for otr job HMD is the place to be. THANK YOU. MUCH LOVE FOR H.M.D
