Peter Shannon & Co. is members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Ilinois CPA Society. Our professional staff is also licensed and/or registered to conduct business in the State of Illinois and various other states. The AICPA requires its members to obtain a minimum of 40 hours of relevant training each year. Through continuing education, our professional staff receives sufficient training to meet the requirements set forth by the ever-changing accounting profession and by government regulations. The AICPA also requires a public accounting firm to receive a peer review of its quality control every three years. Since the inception of the AICPA Peer Review Program, we have consistently been in compliance with the AICPA standards.

A very disappointing and costly decision to use this firm. They seem to be working FOR the IRS and not for you. I was needing expertise and guidance following a messy divorce. As a lower income single mom I assumed there would be a benefit to using a professional to navigate some complex issues. In 4 years of using them I have had to pay the IRS nearly $10,000 in what should have been my returns. This was due my ex husbands debt. They refused to assist in finding out why the IRS took my return. They would not provide suggestions for getting the information needed to to take to my lawyer to resolve. I am still trying to figure out why the IRS took money that due to me. This year I had a very unexpected tax bill due to changes in my income and child support. They did not communicate or help me prepare for this shift. I now have to pay an additional $7000 to the IRS over the next 6 months. Some of this is obviously due to existing tax law but most of what I am experiencing could have been avoided with an accounting firm who communicates, plans, and wants to help you secure the largest return.
We absolutely love John and his whole team. Their attention to detail, their friendly staff, turn around time and mere kindness make them stand above the rest. I really appreciate all of their hard work and suggestions with financial investing. Definitely a great personal and business accounting firm!
