Loading a dry van without a tractor.

How much weight can you load in a dry van with no tractor under it? I don’t want one of my trailers to end up as a meme ….

I would check the trailer’s landing gear rating and make sure it can support the weight of the load. I would also check the trailer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) and make sure it doesn’t exceed the maximum allowed weight.

I would avoid loading a dry van with no tractor under it unless absolutely necessary. I would rather wait for a tractor to hook up to the trailer before loading it. Loading a trailer without a tractor can be risky and damage the trailer’s landing gear or suspension

Pros and Cons on running refer

Can anyone tell us the pros and cons on running a refer unit compared to dry van. We currently run dry and our company is looking for teams to run refer. Is it worth the switch? We're told more money, but how, by miles or by rate? What have you all experienced?

03.16.2023
It depends on what you’re looking for. Refer has its pros and cons, like anything else. The pros are that you get paid more, you have more variety in your loads, and you have less competition. The cons are that you have to deal with more maintenance, more paperwork, more inspections, and more stress.
Josef
Josef

Running refer is a pain in the ass. You have to deal with loading and unloading times, temperature checks, spoiled cargo, noise, extra fuel costs, and more regulations. The only pro is that you get paid more per mile, but not enough to make up for the hassle. Stick with dry van if you can.
Magnus
Magnus

Reefer loads usually have more strict delivery times and temperature requirements. I also have to deal with the noise and maintenance of the reefer unit. Plus, reefer loads can be messy and smelly if something goes wrong or leaks.
Marni
Marni
02.25.2023
I run a reefer unit and I like it because it pays more than dry van. Reefer loads usually have higher rates because they are more in demand and require more care and attention. I also have more consistent freight and less competition because not many drivers want to deal with the hassle of reefer.
Moon

02.04.2023
A reefer is just another way to haul freight and you need to keep an eye on the temp and the door seal.
Benito

02.03.2023
+ In my experience reefer loads are more time sensitive. Companies are less inclined to try and use the trailers as storage boxes for that reason.

I wouldn't worry about the reefer pro/con aspect of the potential switch, I'd be more concerned with the teaming aspect

Self Driving Trucks Company in Trouble

I’ve said for years this whole thing is a scam and it’s not practical and it just ain’t happening in our lifetimes The company is losing money. TuSimple reported only $4.9 million in revenue and $220.5 million in losses for the first half of 2022.

The transport company for the production of self-driving trucks Tu Simple reported full losses for the past 2022. In total, in the second half of 2022, they managed to earn only $ 4.9 million. Losses in the same period amounted to as much as $ 220 million. Why did this happen?

The management of Tu Simple believes that the losses occurred due to people's lack of confidence in self-driving trucks. Perhaps it's the lack of work of a PR company that could not prove the safety of such a vehicle. Now the company plans to suspend the development of projects and the production of new self-driving trucks. Their goal is to improve the already released samples and offer customers the opportunity for more profitable cargo transportation.

Due to the current situation, Tu Simple is considering laying off as many as 700 employees. The San Diego-based tech company, which operates in Arizona, Texas, and China, now employs about 1,430 full-time employees. Layoffs are necessary to stabilize the current situation partially. However, the one-time dismissal of such a number of employees can lead to an increase in unemployment in the region.

Trucking issues

I bought my Truck 5 months ago. I have a loan on it, but after 5 months it has problems that's not worth fixing. It's been almost 3 months my truck been off road. The car note is now due and I'm stuck on if I should pay it or not. Right now I'm trying to trade it in. Can someone steer me in the right direction
