Confirm with the local authorities or a customs broker what you need

Since you’re the owner of the truck and trailer, you’ll need to check if there are specific permits required for them.

Make sure the cars have all the necessary import papers.

Hey, whatever works. He knows where to go and where not to plus he knows the language. I think the biggest problem with drivers going to mexico is that they have no idea how to drive there and don't know the language.

You can't haul down there the insurance companies frown on it and won't cover you. You can go to the border towns and transfer it or buy a Mexican truck company and transfer it to your truck that way but its a dangerous business.

When i was in road master i heard stories about delivering or accedently rolling into or over the mexican boarder. The quote was 'Don't count on your tractor trailer coming back in one piece if at all'. And then they would let out a loud laugh.

It’s definitely possible to earn well as a day cab owner-operator. Efficiency and local relationships are key.

Sure, if you hustle like a madman and charm dispatchers better than a smooth-talking CB radio.

Definitely, but it all depends on the work you get. In my experience it's more challenging to get dedicated local work than it is to run load boards and move around.

Get a small sleeper. You never know when a load worth big money might require a day or two out. Or if local work dries up you'll be screwed. Day cabs suck for sleeping lol.

How much is “decent money” though? Obviously this depends greatly on work put in, good luck with the truck, and work.

We have a guy at the company I drive for who lease purchased his day cab and runs flatbed lumber loads from Fort Worth to somewhere in Arkansas and is home every day, so it’s possible.

I heard on the Tube that if you call in an anonymous complaint about your trucking company doing something illegal, DOT has to do an audit and afterwards (assuming you pass) you will get a good rating.

LoL solo no way in hell would you ever make $8000. Best I ever did was $3800 and that was with over 5000 miles across the usa in a week. Your looking at $500 to $3000 depending on location and how good your company is.

You definitely could even make up the $10,000 a week and a sprinter van even in a cargo van you just have to work with the right brokers and your goal should be to work with direct shippers don't limit yourself you're a business owner not a driver

Learn to fix all the minor and some moderate problems on your truck. Build a network of mechanics. Find a niche, most dry van o/o would only want a regular 1p1d load. Very few will do multi pick/drop loads or do loads they’ll have to unload their selves. Be firm on your price and don’t lowball yourself

How do owner-operators find freight?

I have my truck, I tried to work with these companies, and everyone wants to own your money, and they are sending you no actual confirmations! So how can I find my loads?

Look for local shippers who might need a regular hauler. Building a relationship with them can get you steady work without all the runaround.

Hello Mr. Mamadoi! You will need to open your own MC and DOT #! Then, of course, be responsible for insurance, and paperwork, hire a dispatcher, or (look for a load by yourself)! After this, you can connect with brokers and work with your own business! Finally, you must open accounts with Loads Platforms to find a load. Good luck to you!

How about the fact that 3PLs are third-party logistics providers' carrier networks? They match owner-operators with available loads from shippers.
Joe

I didn’t know about it. I know that they can bid on loads independently on digital load boards
