I always use an 8 foot drop tarp because it covers most of the loads I haul. It’s better to have some extra tarp than not enough. You can always fold or roll up the excess material and secure it with straps or bungees.
Denzel
Denzel
03.03.2023
It depends on what kind of cargo you are hauling. If you are hauling lumber or other materials that need to be protected from the weather, you need a lumber tarp with flaps at the end. If you are hauling steel or other metals that need to be protected from scratches and rust, you need a steel tarp without flaps. If you are hauling something round like coils or pipes, you need a coil tarp that fits snugly around them.
Josef
Josef
02.28.2023
You need to measure the length and width of your load and then choose a tarp that covers it completely. For example, if your load is 40 feet long and 8 feet wide, you need a tarp that is at least 41 feet long and 9 feet wide.

The complexity of regular GPS routing is less than that of truck routing. This is due to a number of factors. For instance, certain types of roads are off-limits to the operation of trucks and commercial vehicles.

Truckers must use a unique type of GPS software designed only for them to navigate. These programs must consider all the restrictions that come with operating a vehicle. Truck routing applications work similarly to ordinary navigation apps in that they will provide you with spoken directions as the driver requests them while also accounting for all traffic regulations and CMB characteristics.

I noticed the following features of A GPS App.

For the majority of truck drivers, if not all of them, using a GPS app has become absolutely necessary. Let's look at a few advantages of utilizing a GPS app.

  • Safety: GPS apps for truckers include crucial safety advice. The app will be used to send measurements like weight constraints, height restrictions, speed limits, and other information.
  • Effectiveness: Making trucking routes will be successful with decent GPS apps. They will be able to arrange such points in the most effective manner and guide a motorist from place to place.
  • Reliability: The top GPS applications on the market are updated often so that users may rely on them at all times.
  • Saves money: All reputable GPS programs will find the best routes for your trips. This translates to lower fuel expenditures and other truck-related expenses for you.
  • Time-saving: Drivers can cut down on travel time by being given the shortest and fastest routes.
  • Enhances driving behaviors: With a reliable GPS app, you'll start to notice an improvement in your driving habits.

Moreover, there is also a CoPilot Navigation app offering the following:

  • Give your drivers access to highly precise, secure, and truck-legal navigation.
  • Increase route adherence and evaluate driver performance by comparing the planned and real routes after the journey.
  • Reduce operational and fuel expenditures overall to increase revenue and your bottom line.
  • ETAs that are exact and dynamic and based on current road conditions will improve customer service and on-time delivery.

Grayson

03.08.2023
You might have to pay a hefty fine for your ELD not working properly. The DOT requires you to have a functioning ELD that can be downloaded by an officer and to have instructions on how to operate it. If you don’t, you could be cited for violating the ELD rule and falsifying your logs. The fine amount depends on the severity of the violation and the state you’re in, but it could range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
Josef
Josef
02.28.2023
You might be able to avoid a ticket if you can prove that your ELD malfunctioned and that you tried to fix it or report it. The DOT allows you to use paper logs or an electronic logging app as a backup if your ELD stops working, but you have to keep them for eight days and show them to an officer. You also have to contact your carrier and get your ELD repaired or replaced within eight days. If you can show evidence of these steps, you might get a warning instead of a ticket.

If your home time starts tomorrow, but you are 12 hours away, and your managers want you to bring the cargo, then you need to figure out how to proceed. To begin with, you should understand that without a preliminary plan, you have the full legislative right not to make a trip, so if the company has not provided you with a plan, you should not move. If they provide you with a preliminary plan, then you should think about the rules for using home time.

Home time is the movement of a truck for personal use during non-working hours. The driver can count the time spent driving a CMV for personal transportation as non-working only if the driver is relieved of work and any responsibility for the performance of work by his supervisors.

The new legislation divides home time and working time when driving a commercial vehicle. Using home time for transportation is illegal, whether a preliminary plan is presented to you or not. Here the driver has every right to refuse transportation, referring to the legislation.

There may also be an interpersonal issue between the management and the driver. If the management insists and is not afraid of the legislation and cannot realize the danger of abandoning home time - it is worth stopping being afraid to work in such a company. If you understand that the current situation occurred due to the fact that you unsuccessfully chose the home time for yourself, then proceed as follows. For example, if you need to come home on the 12th, then ask for home time for 10. Always choose this time with a margin so that you will not be sent to carry the cargo for some short time before home time.

Despite a lot of changes in legislation and improved conditions for commercial vehicle drivers, many managers still use similar tricks with home time to keep you carrying 1 more cargo, thereby reducing your additional time for rest. Therefore, you must learn to anticipate such situations and take home time in advance and 1-2 days before the desired date. This is especially true of situations with family holidays and weekends. For example, your wife has a birthday, and you want to be at home on this holiday and decide to take a day off specifically on this day. And 12 hours before your home time, your boss will send you to carry a new cargo. This way, you will lose some of your home time, which is illegal, but ignored by many carriers.

Cooling down

To answer the question of how quickly your refrigerator in a commercial vehicle will cool from 75° to -15°, you need to understand how the whole system works.

Such a system of a truck with a trailer consists of a power supply system, cooling circuits, air distribution systems, and a control system, which are combined into a device mounted on a trailer. The main cooling circuit includes a compressor, an evaporator radiator, a condenser radiator, an expansion device, tubes, and valves. At an outdoor temperature of +30 C, such a semi-trailer lowers it inside the body and then maintains it in the range from +12 to -20 degrees, depending on the requirements of this cargo, the degree of tightness of the van, and the type of refrigeration unit.

In addition to the refrigerators themselves, the semi-trailer can act as a glacier or a heated vehicle. The source of cold in the van is eutectic plates, dry or natural ice, and liquefied gases. Inside the body, the temperature can range from +7 °C to -20 ° C. If carriers need to constantly transport several cargoes at different temperatures, then they can order the manufacture of multi-temperature refrigerators.

The refrigerator is manufactured in two versions:

  • on the chassis of an onboard semi-trailer;
  • on a special chassis;

The second option has a reduced curb weight and increased load capacity. Sometimes, to facilitate the chassis for refrigerators, the design is made semi-frame. But we should not forget its main drawback — the likelihood of cracks at the junction of the saddle pad with the frame. To prevent the movement of cargo inside the van and for convenient sorting of it, removable mesh partitions can be installed inside the van. All components of the refrigerator must correspond to each other, as well as to the selected temperature regime inside the semi-trailer.

How quickly can such a system cool down? Different refrigerators have different cooling rates. This is also influenced by the firm of the refrigerator and external weather conditions - humidity and air temperature. In stable conditions, the refrigerator will need only 2 hours for complete cooling. In cases with older devices or in worse weather conditions, cooling can last up to 7 hours.

Frame rust...

Im not sure if there is a better forum to post this..but I'm seeking some advice, regarding my trucks condition. My Pete's has a double frame, and in most area's, there is chunky, flaky rust forming (formed) in between the two frame rails.....top and bottom. Motor area is ok, but under the bunk, fifth wheel area back, rust chunks. Would this effect the frames integrity? And do I have to worry about this getting so bad that the frame becomes doombed? Rust is just beetween the two frames..there is a small gap beetween, whitch is normal.
I Thought maybe someone has, or has had a simular experiance.

Hey buddy, I had the same problem with my old KW. The rust can weaken the frame over time and cause cracks or breaks. You need to get that cleaned up and treated as soon as possible. One option could be to take a wire wheel on a grinder to it, and then visit a Line-X dealer to coat it. The material used for spray-on bed liners in pick-up trucks makes a fine undercoating, and is often used when old car guys put new floor or truck pans in their cars.

RUST is nothing more than signs that the metal is oxidizing, slowly, but oxidizing none-the-less. Fire is 'rapid' oxidization. SO if you got a FASTER truck, the frame wouldn't rust, but it would burn. I pass trucks rusting away all day long.
Thomas D.
Thomas D.
02.05.2023
+ Yup, eventually it will crack or break. You can go to a metal shop and have them measure actual thickness and strength with their meters. Its probably time for new frame rails.

Yes, you can take the test before you get fingerprinted. But why would you do that? You’re just asking for trouble. What if you pass the test but fail the background check? Then you’ll have to take the test again. And pay for it again

What are you, nuts? Do you think they’ll let you haul hazardous materials without checking your background? Get your shit together, man.

No, you can’t take your hazmat endorsement test at the DMV before you get fingerprinted. You need to complete the TSA application online or by phone and get your fingerprints taken at an approved location before you can take the test.

t depends on when your hazmat endorsement expires. If it expires within 180 days, you can renew it by taking the test at the DMV before you get fingerprinted. If it expires in more than 180 days, you need to get fingerprinted first and wait for TSA approval before taking the test. You also need to complete an ELDT course every two years as part of your renewal process

In California you can take the tests but I think it’s better to just wait because you still have to go to the dmv to take your picture and get your paper work.

I live in Texas and I took my test before the fingerprints, after passing they then handed me the info needed for background/fingerprint

Depends on the state. But if your state does the testing and license issuing in the same building, you might as well wait until after you get fingerprinted so you don’t have to go to the DMV twice.
