Overweight?

I'm 6'1 and about 260. Don't smoke, drink, or anything. Used to bending and climbing with no problems and very coordinated. Is there a health requirement that would be an issue? Done past DOT physical with no medical problems. Just wondering

If you have any medical problems that require treatment or medication, you may need a medical certificate from your doctor. Being overweight can increase your risk of developing some of these conditions, so it is advisable to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet as much as possible.

Post Trip Inspections

I know it's good practice to do them, but if they are actually required by DOT? And if they're required to be documented similarly to pre trips?

You have to check your vehicle for any defects or problems that could affect its safety or performance. You also have to write a report and list any issues you find or that were reported to you. Quit a company within 2 weeks

If I Quit a company within 2 weeks of starting do I have to say I worked for them. I'm with a new company and currently in orientation but was told a few things that I'm not ok with. Would I be required to report that I worked for them if I have to Quit? I'd prefer it not even be on my work history.

In order to become a licensed commercial driver, you must pass a DOT medical examination.

What is being checked?

  • Blood pressure and pulse. Normally, the driver's blood pressure should not be higher than 140/90. If the pressure is not normal, the driver gets a certificate and is examined again after some time.
  • Vision. The driver must have a vision of at least 20/40. He may also use lenses or glasses. Also checked the peripheral vision and the ability to distinguish the colors of traffic lights.
  • Hearing. Drivers must be able to recognize 'whispered' text from more than 5 feet away.
  • General urinalysis. Tested to detect kidney or liver problems.

In addition to all of the above, the driver's physical data - general appearance, musculoskeletal system, limb function, etc. are checked.

Also, a DOT with a CDL is needed to show it to the freight company where you are going to get a job.

It is necessary to obtain such medical documents from the Ministry of Transport (DOT), although many requirements may seem excessive. All this ensures a safe situation on the road because the management of commercial transport is a difficult task. Thus, all professional truck drivers should get a DOT with a CDL and have it with them during trips of any duration.

Has anyone heard anything new about that federal speed governor requirement?

I read on the fmcsa website that they put out a notice of intent back in April, and we’re taking comments on it, but not a word since. If you didn’t know about it, they stated that since there has been a supposed increase of accidents over 70 mph, they plan to impose a federal regulation for speed governors at 65 mph.

I don't think it is a DOT violation. Some shippers will require them, before they let you drive away with their product. Some companies have a policy of requiring them, in addition to the door seal. Plus, it is just a really good idea, protecting you from any liability should your trailer get broken into, and you didn't have a load lock to prevent it from happening.
Keanu
Keanu
12.05.2022
Load locks are bars placed in the trailer to help keep the cargo 'locked' in place. They are not actual locks. You are responsible to make sure the load is secure if possible. That may mean using load locks, straps, airbags, etc. Some loads dont require anything at all.
Moon
Moon

Next time your truck is in the shop, check with them and see if they have some spare load locks you can put on the rack on your truck. The rack if I am correct should hold 4 full size load locks.
