Trucking Lifestyle

Is it normal for a prior truck driver to miss the truck and road?

I have been off the road for a month and a half. I moved into a Safety Coordinator position at a completely separate company. I find myself having a difficult time sitting behind a desk and only going out to do random checks on employees. I love the freedom of movement I have now, not stuck in truck stops, having an easier time cooking without much hassle, but I long for the road and my truck.

thats a good choice, even at the buffet there are option but yes, getting your proteins are going to be tough. I'm not pure veg. but I try and stay away from pork, since the navy turned me off to chicken I can't eat that, and beef, that's not good for my already clogged arteries

Yeah, but when was the last time you lived off of salad and cereal? There *are* options, but they're not great. I suspect I'll end up carrying a good deal of my own food with me, but then, even when I ate meat I did that anyway.

I'm lacto-ovo vegetarian. I don't have a lot of answers for you, because I went veg AFTER I came off the road the last time, and now that I'm going back out, I'm struggling on how to keep my diet once I'm thrust back into the land of fast food and meat filled buffets.

Trucking is a lifestyle is a big fat lie

Trucking to me is a a job and a career. I tried to understand why it a lifestyle.

Trucking to me is a a job and a career. I tried to understand why it a lifestyle. I been trucking for two months now and I still see it as a job and a career. When I think about it, some truckers just don't enjoy it like I do. I defined lifestyle of someone working a 12 hour shift at a freaking chicken factory or some other factories. I been there so I know what it's like. I didn't had no life. Only time I had to myself were 3 hours. After them three hours I had to sleep and do the 12 all over again. Now I am a truck driver I have more time then I ever did to myself. So to sum it up, the only way trucking is not a lifestyle to me because of the background I come from. I love what I do now.

It is a lifestyle in a way, but not as most think of it. Takes a special breed to do this job, and the 'life style' is not for everyone. I have tried other work, and always wind up back in the truck. One thing though, I own the truck, if I had to drive for someone, I would not be in this industry any longer. Ownership has its benefits.

Working 70 hours every week and 3 days off each month...I'd call it a lifestyle...pay off my house then its part time driving for me..I need some strange. 😁

Truck drivers should boycott low quality foods in truck stops.

This is mostly a rant. But I'm so sick and tired of pulling into a truck stop and seeing a subway,a Arby's, mc Donald's etc...I mostly eat at smaller truck stop diners and things like that. But obviously it's not always an option. Cooking in the truck is not a great option to me. Mostly due to cleaning etc. I don't know, I feel like we as truckers should stop giving money to fast foods placed in truck stops. And maybe they'll start putting some better food in there.

I was a chef for 30 years and now I'm a trucker. The food at most truck stops is pretty bad. I've tried a few mom and pop trucker diners and they were awful. If I want something that I didn't make my go to is Mexican. I can usually get a Carne Asada plate or tacos. The best thing at the Pilot is the Jalapeño Cheese Hotdogs if you can find a soft bun. Unfortunately most of the foodservice world is in really bad shape right now. It would be better if half the restaurants in the country closed down because chronic understaffing isn't going to get better.

Unfortunately you (and I) are the minority. Those places are everywhere because they make huge profits off drivers. Look at the next 100 drivers you see at a truck stop - how many look like they’d eat at a healthy place?

If it makes you feel better I got one worse than that. Made a right hand turn in backwoods TN and got high centered. When I got out I could clearly see the “no trucks right turn” sign laying in the ditch from someone else. Took me an hour to get someone to help all the while blocking a two lane highway with a blind curve on either side. Used a dozer and a chain to unfuck myself.

Not sure if this is my MOST embarrassing, but it’s certainly up there… been driving this company truck for a few weeks and went to roll the passenger side window down to see to back and it wouldn’t roll down. Was in the shop getting PM and mentioned it to the mechanic and left. When I came back he said the button no longer worked. Immediately I said “well how in the world am I supposed to roll the windows down then? He just reached up and cranked it down with the hand crank. I had been rolling my driver side window up and down everyday with the hand crank and somehow, in that moment, I couldn’t fathom that the passenger side would operate the same way. It was truly a blond moment.

Stop Overpaying for Cellphone service

LINK

This service runs off the T-Mobile Towers 4G and 5G They Support ESIM for instant service or they will mail you a regular Sim Card, they also support WIFI Calling so you never have a dead spot at home or anywhere you have WIFI. My wife uses this service and I will be switching myself as soon as my time runs out on my current provider. I stream talk radio all day over Bluetooth on my phone and never go over 6GB a month. There is no need to have a Unlimited data plan on your phone unless you live on Tik Tok or YouTube , if you only check Facebook, Twitter or normal websites on your phone you are wasting your money.
