A request from a less-than-truckload carrier appears to have prompted the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to consider a change in the federal apprenticeship program created to attract younger drivers to the trucking industry.
An FMCSA posting in the Federal Register today says the agency seeks comments on a request from Pittsburg-based carrier Pitt Ohio to allow it to accept participants into its apprenticeship program who have a commercial learner`s permit instead of a CDL as stipulated in the regulations that created the Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot.

Love’s Travel Stops plans to continue its strategic growth plans by adding new locations, partnerships and amenities in 2023. In an online call with the media, Love's President Shane Wharton said the company has "a lot of exciting things planned" this year.
I’ve said for years this whole thing is a scam and it’s not practical and it just ain’t happening in our lifetimes The company is losing money. TuSimple reported only $4.9 million in revenue and $220.5 million in losses for the first half of 2022.
The transport company for the production of self-driving trucks Tu Simple reported full losses for the past 2022. In total, in the second half of 2022, they managed to earn only $ 4.9 million. Losses in the same period amounted to as much as $ 220 million. Why did this happen?
The management of Tu Simple believes that the losses occurred due to people's lack of confidence in self-driving trucks. Perhaps it's the lack of work of a PR company that could not prove the safety of such a vehicle. Now the company plans to suspend the development of projects and the production of new self-driving trucks. Their goal is to improve the already released samples and offer customers the opportunity for more profitable cargo transportation.
Due to the current situation, Tu Simple is considering laying off as many as 700 employees. The San Diego-based tech company, which operates in Arizona, Texas, and China, now employs about 1,430 full-time employees. Layoffs are necessary to stabilize the current situation partially. However, the one-time dismissal of such a number of employees can lead to an increase in unemployment in the region.

Yellow Corporation announced it graduated more than 1,000 CDL apprentices from its network of driving academies in 2022.
Yellow Corporation is a large American transportation holding company that announced that in 2022 it could train more than 1,000 CDL drivers. Their driving schools showed productive results, which they plan to repeat in 2023.
How did Yellow Corporation manage it? An impressive result was achieved thanks to expanding the driving school network to 21 locations in 16 American states. In this way, in just 12 months, the number of graduates of the school has grown to 1,000 people.
Yellow Corporation themselves claim that such a result is a breakthrough for them and an impetus for even greater company expansion. They also thank all employees and, first of all, instructors of all driving schools. Thanks to their skilled work, the number of positive reviews about the school is growing, and the number of students is growing. Darren Hawkins, CEO of Yellow Corporation, confidently asserts that their graduates are qualified specialists. It is not so easy to pass the exam at school because the road is a dangerous place where you cannot send specialists who are not fully ready.
In 2023, the company plans to cooperate extensively with the US Department of Labor, as a result of which new driving schools and new paid programs will be opened. According to the sponsorship of the Ministry of Labor, more accessible places for training will be allocated, and hourly payments will be made to scholarship students.

Officers encountered a 36-year-old driver of a tractor-trailer with a shipment manifested as decorative stone. During the inspection, a CBP officer referred the driver along with the tractor-trailer for a more intensive examination.

While I adore tacos, I also have terrible taco snobbery. I only prefer my food served from a truck in a Los Angeles parking lot. They need to be little, delicious, and ridiculously affordable.
This story has been told to me, and I believe it's fantastic. The snow plow operator was really generous and friendly to the stranded truck drivers. He also increased his understanding of the difficulties and significance of trucking. I'm delighted other individuals who wished to support his cause gave him money and assistance.
Here is the story:
The trucking industry is thanking a WYDOT snow plow driver for going above and above to offer food and beverages for truckers stranded amid a significant snowfall.
Plow driver Jaron Fry started to notice more and more stopped trucks in the Evanston region as I-80 in Wyoming was being closed for extended periods of time due to severe winter weather.
Fry, a former truck driver, is aware of the difficulty truckers have in locating food during severe winter weather situations.
Using social media, Fry started to inform the trapped truckers that he was gathering food for them during his downtime and urged them to send him a Facebook private message or to 'turn your flashers on, and I will stop by.' In an effort to get extra supplies for the stranded drivers, he also started taking Venmo donations.
The truck drivers who contacted Fry received Taco Bell tacos, McDonald's morning burritos, Jimmy John's sandwiches, and bottled water.
Fry expressed appreciation for both the truckers' efforts to keep the country running and for those who worked or gave money to assist him in feeding the drivers.
