How can one apply for California CDL trucking jobs? Before searching for a job, one should first obtain CDL. Applicants for Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) CDL:
The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) adopted federal Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements for commercial driver's license (CDL) applicants on February 7, 2022. ELDT must be administered by a licensed training provider on the federal Training Provider Registry (TPR).
For candidates who are: on or after February 7, 2022, successful completion of the ELDT is necessary.
In addition to the federal requirements, when applying for an original CDL (Class A or B) in California, the applicant must complete at least 15 hours of behind-the-wheel training and submit a California Commercial Driver Behind The Wheel Training Certification (DL 1236) to the DMV as proof of completion before their CDL is issued.
If you're at least 18 years old, you can be employed to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) carrying goods that originates and terminates inside state boundaries, and if you're 21 or older, you can drive for interstate commerce or transport hazardous materials/waste. To drive a CMV in any circumstance, you must have a CDL.
After 14 days with a commercial learner's permit (CLP), you can apply to take the CDL skills exam. This 14-day wait time also applies to classification changes and endorsement/restriction modifications that need a skills test.
To apply for a CDL, follow these steps:
Pass the skills exam, which consists of a vehicle inspection, a test of fundamental control abilities, and a road test. If you fail any section of the skills test, all further testing will be postponed. To pass the skills exam, you have three chances. Each time you retake the skills exam, you must pay a retest charge.
