I worked for ACT Jan.-June 2024. I’ll start by saying I left mainly because miles are inconsistent right now. And that is mainly due to the dry-van freight market. I left to go to a refrigerated company because more loads are available their. With ACT you can make as little or as much as you want ( depending on available loads) and how much you want to be home. They offer 7 days at home a month and you have to be out at least 11 days before you can take home time. With that said, if you take all 7 days in any given month its harder to make money. Their pay per mile is great. Benefits are good. You get 5 days vacation every 6 months. Trucks are basic Kenworth and Freightshakers. Nothing fancy. They do have driver facing cameras. They claim they dont watch them but they do. I was called because my passenger unbuckled to go into sleeper and I was called the same day. No recordable events that day to trigger camera. So they had to be watching it. If you run at least 9000 miles a month and do your job you’ll get along with your fleet manager. BUT Safety Dept. will micro-manage the hell out of you because of that camera. Drive the ACT way or they will call religiously. My biggest complaint is lack of communication between departments in office. Load planners dont talk to dispatchers and so forth. If you have to ask questions about a load the reply from dispatch is almost always “ I have to ask the load planner and call you back”. For a 300 truck company they arent bad, staff is friendly, shop is decent, and loads are adequate ( not great but ok). I would go back as a last- resort.
Excellent pay and benefits. Planners weren't that great at giving you practical trips sometimes but home time was spot on. Had two reoccurring issues with my truck and was going to their shop 2-3 times a month till I quit. Was told who I should speak with in admin; I did call and did leave voicemails.. no answers. Then was notified of my miles falling behind...ok so they're paying me for these dozens of shop time hours, but are clueless why Dispatcher actually said to me "I don't have a lot of pull with management but I'll try a email".. nope, no response.
Poor Communication between you and your Dispatcher. You call and ask questions and get one answer today...tomorrow, they change what they tell you. Low miles, long periods of sitting...especially if you are sent to TX ...you know you will be waiting for at least a day to get a load to get out of there. A lot of micromanagement.
Great place to work and plenty of miles to keep you moving if you are not lazy. I get home time everytime I request on time. Act takes care of the equipment and the drivers. We have a nice newer facility and great office support staff! It is the best job I have ever had in the trucking industry!!
Been with ACT almost 5 years, Best company I've ever worked for. I'm a trainer also, if you're looking for place to retire from and tired of switching out the name on the door ACT is the place to be
A great place to call home!...try and see you just might like it too❤️.. update!... almost 8 months later and I'm still here..these folks really do work with you...thier equipment is great too ..make the change to American Central transport today!
Great place to work and call home...top tier equipment, family like ppl,and just an over awesome experience
I cannot speak highly enough about my first impressions of this company, it truly is a family and your made to feel that way from day one. If anyone is truly looking for a home to stay with look no further you have found it here. They have great equipment, great personnel who truly want to help you and make sure you succeed here. It takes a lot to impress me, but ACT has definitely achieved that goal. Give them a chance and I am sure you will feel the same as I do.
New equipment an great staff will help with everything..
One of the worst places to drive for. They do not care about drives. And if you have a great record they do not care about you if you have a million safe SAFE record. They will lie to you, and when it comes time to uphold there end of the deal. They say "o i must of misspoke, that give us another yr. And we will see what we can do then." The list can go on why ACT is a bad company. Just lower your expectations if you come here most definitely if you are a woman.
ACT has been great. The way a trucking company should be an operate. Great home time and respect for their drivers.
My Husband's home hub love the family like work place environment ... The free rider policy allows me to join my husband on aome amazing adventures.... Thank you our ACT family
I have been with ACT for over 3 years. Great equipment, great office staff and awesome mechanics. They have great home time, benifit package and bonuses. ACT has won 20 best fleets to drive for 4 yrs in a row. When they say we're family, they mean it. I recruited my brother who has been with ACT for 2 yrs now. He went through their training program.
The people for the most part are friendly and the equipment is good but...they seem to think that a weekend off is 24-34 hrs. I completely disagree a weekend off is a weekend off 2 days as per how weekends work in this country.
Premier company within the transportation industry . Both drivers and fleet support staff are second to none. With a professional & relaxing atmosphere present, American Central Transport makes for a outstanding location to call your professional home.
It's been a while since I worked here but my time there was great. Not sure if I can go back but I would love too.
Yeah it's funny about how they can remove a review so soon when you have something to say about the training program and how bad the trainers are.
I feel at home with ACT. They are a great company to be with. I have never had any problems with any of the staff in the office, in the shop or with other drivers. Every driver I have talked with have only had positive things to say about driving for ACT. My DSM before I switched to a dedicated route (Keith Long) was truly awsome. He was very understanding and helpful if I called him with a question about anything. He never acted like he was to busy to listen and offer his help. I told him I needed a new truck because the one I had was having trouble in reverse even after being sent to kenworth to be repaired. He told me he would get on it and had me in a new truck the same day. Even when I asked him about a dedicated route he got right on it and had me a route the same day. My hat is off to you Keith and the rest of the staff at ACT for making ACT more than just another place to work, for making it a company that truly makes you feel like you matter and are appreciated.
Was in the top 5 of driving jobs I have had in my career I would recommend them to anyone that asked me good home time especially if you live near any of there customers
What is the best part of working at the company? Really take care of equipment and any drivers need What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Really no stress What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They provide any thing driver needs What is a typical day like for you at the company? Driving a tractor trailer
I'm not sure why people are saying they make you sit on loads. I have been here since Febuary 2018 and have only had to sit on one load..ever, and got paid 640 dollars to sit on it from friday afternoon to monday morning. In that time I've only not been home on time 3 times. Best company I have ever worked for. Hands down.
Decent company, decent miles, decent pay, but micro management is huge. I rather be in an office setting again. In-cab facing camera is on 24/7 365…..
Good mileage no micro managing definitely a great starter company they get you home when you ask and never have to fight for home time great training program
I loved it just outgrew it if that makes any sense! I just needed a career that catered to my life and I feel like OTR anywhere is a hinder to the family dynamic!
What is the best part of working at the company? GREAT STAFF TO WORK WITH I ENJOYED THEM What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I DIDNT HAVE A STRESSFUL JUST COMMUNICATED WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE What is the work environment and culture like at the company? VERY PEOPLE FRIENDLY AND THEY LOOKOUT FOR THEIR DRIVERS What is a typical day like for you at the company? WAKE UP CHECK YOUR COMPUTER GET YOUR LOAD INFO HIT THE ROAD
What is the best part of working at the company? Working for ACT is like working with family. From the front door to the back door EVERYBODY is like family. Yes it's even a couple that aren't like the rest but all in all a family is what you get working with this company. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I honestly haven't had a stressful time working for this company. Even when I had some trouble with a meet up with a tree and my trailer it was all handled with professional calmness. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The work environment is steady, open and detailed. What is a typical day like for you at the company? A typical day is checking load assignment, pretripping your truck and trailer, then getting to the assignment.
Employs approximately 300 drivers. Lined up with good shippers and receivers. Fair management with open door policy. I did well there. Left due to medical reasons.
This company does not care about it drivers. If you do not work in the office you are not important and are just a number. They give you miles based on how you take your home time and constantly force you to take loads that make you sit. For instance recently they scheduled a load that forced a 34 hour restart the day coming back from home time. They are also constantly sending you home a day or two early and much more that negatively effects your paycheck and they couldn't care less.
It was pretty good there at first when i started. I worked there as both an owner-op and company but then the put dash cam that where always running in the trucks looking both ways with sound. And the safety guy would call you up to gibber at you.
If you want to work for a good company this is a Great place to drive for they will keep you moving good recruiters management and dispatch...........
Do your research, before signing the documents and ask questions. They will have you sitting on loads for two and three days before your scheduled delivery time. Good luck you will need it
Lease operator is nice because you get more freedoms than being on the company side, but the lease program is a joke. ACT drained every penny out of my maintenance account after I turned in my truck. My truck was one of the best maintained trucks on the lot because I took pride in my equipment. I had a lot of money in my maintenance account, but two months later they said I still owed them money and would wipe the slate clean if I came back to drive for them. It's trucking and I laughed at them because I promised myself I would NEVER again lease a truck. My dispatcher was awesome and trailers were always in good legal condition. Never liked the inward facing cameras and they do check them even though they say its monitored by a third party.
Excellent OTR company. They really do everything possible to make you as comfortable and safe as possible. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and my experience with all levels of management was exceptionally enjoyable. They go above and beyond to get you home when you request home time. If I do go back OTR, I will be contacting ACT first.
I have seen the the advertisements about trucking companies being driver focused and family orientated. But ACT really works that way. they are very respectful of their drivers and will let them make the money. I really loved working there. I moved out of their running lanes or I woukd still be driving for them.
A good company. More on the buddy buddy system. Good equipment they kept good maintenance on trucks and trailers. 65 mph trucks so you wont make alot of money.
