Nice place to work
Good place to work very friendly staff keep keeps a person work
I'm a driver for Bay Shippers where our maintenance shop and tractors are stationed with cameras and security locks on entrance gate maintenance shop open 7am to 5pm
A midsize company with strong management and a positive work environment, especially compared to similar businesses operating at Wilmington Port.
I appreciate the opportunity they gave me, but the pay is inconsistent. I’m a hardworking and ambitious person who values stability. The safety bonuses were helpful, but I’m looking for a bigger opportunity.
- Best part: The ability to work throughout the week and weekends. Port work was enjoyable. - Most stressful aspect: Working in bad weather, which could be challenging. - Work environment and culture: A close-knit, supportive team where I built great relationships. - Typical day: Straightforward tasks focused on meeting customer needs.
- Best part: The company was sold to Leonard’s Transportation, and employees were notified via email. Bay Shippers was also instructed not to pay out unused vacation days. - Most stressful aspect: Lack of work and no effort to bring in new contracts. It used to be a promising family-owned business, but the last two years saw a rapid decline. - Work environment and culture: Poor atmosphere, with drivers scrambling for work. Upper management stopped caring about the business and the employees who helped build it, leaving them without support. - Typical day: A lot of waiting around, hoping for a load—an unfortunate situation.
- Best part: Supportive staff, drivers, and a stress-free work environment. - Most stressful aspect: Long waits at the piers and dealing with reckless drivers. - Work environment and culture: Family-oriented and professional. - Typical day: A flexible schedule with a variety of runs.
Not a bad job, but work availability is limited. The people are great, and they’re accommodating with time off. Weekends are always free. No major complaints.
The workplace suppresses ideas and growth. The manager is dishonest, and office staff are forced into workplace politics. It’s disappointing..
Every company has flaws, but I have no complaints. I love my job, the flexibility, and the fact that they still run Columbia trucks—the last of the fully diesel models. The pay is solid, the staff is respectful and supportive, and it’s a great place to work. As a former owner-operator, I appreciate the level of freedom here.
Pay is based on work performance, so earnings depend on individual effort. They’re understanding when time off is needed for emergencies. Drivers are paid based on performance and get to be home every night.
Bay Shippers is the best company I’ve worked for. The environment, management, and drivers are all friendly and professional. I couldn’t ask for a better workplace.
A fantastic place to work. Employees are treated as individuals, not just numbers. If you need assistance, they’re always willing to help. Repairs are handled promptly.
The company is flexible with time off requests. I have a dedicated weekly route and a strong relationship with the customer I deliver to. I also appreciate the weekly pay schedule.
Dispatch is responsive and listens to drivers. There’s no need to chase them for time off or preferred routes. - No slip-seating. - Fuel cards and benefits provided. - Extra work is available for those who want it, and time off is accommodated.
I’ve been with Bay Shippers for three years as a tractor-trailer driver. The company culture is professional, and my dispatcher values my time and effort. There’s room for growth, and the most rewarding part of my job is making deliveries and ensuring customer satisfaction.
