Decker has not just survived but thrived for over nine decades
As a driver, knowing they've been around since 1931 gives me a sense of pride
Good to know that my hard work contributes to a company that stands for something real. Love guys there
Professionalism is unmatched
They're all about those solid Midwestern ethics
Your truck number 3413 just pored pee out there window. All down the side of truck and puddle in parking lot. AT A SHIPPER!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING WOULDN'T LET ME POST PICTURES🤮. I hope they cut your contract. That is unacceptable. They had restrooms available about 40 feet away. Be prepared for emergency or get off the road. 5 gallon bucket. A bottle and trash bags. No excuse for this at all
This company only care about is Money. I called my fleet manager. Ashley Walker, and I informed her that I had a family emergency, but she interpreted to Jason that I said that the company was not right for me so Jason gave me a call and said that Miss Ashley has said that I told her that the company was not right for me and I told him no that it’s not what I told her I told her I had a family emergency and I will not be able to come back out I asked Jason is they going to put a bandit? on my record. He said yes because we how to come and get the truck. I told him I’m not abandon the truck. I will bring the truck back, but I how to have my kids on the truck with me. I said if you put that on my record, it is not going to look good to the next company that I apply for he tell me just explain the situation of what happened and also we charging you for the contract you signed paying this much money back which was $699 but I work for them a month so $100 came out and we also going to charge you for the mileage of the person coming to get the truck and bring it back to Fort Dodge, Iowa 🤦🏽♀️ They charging me for a trailer recovery, but I didn’t not have a trailer. I only had the truck, but I told them that I will bring back, but I will have to have my kids on the truck.
Sent home from orientation. Training staff sucked, said I wasn’t doing what they were showing and could not get their ELD down. I feel I did have down the computer and Jerry should retire because he does not know how to be a trainer. Also more work then what it is worth and was sent home and got 0for orientation. All companies pay you something if you did not go home on your own and spent 4days up here for 0? No will not fly.Lawyer will be in touch
From a former driver standpoint looking to go back OTR, I read all the reviews. The response from Decker was outstanding and showed they care, not just words, but why they care and how they can help others. On the 5 stars, we’re in great detail and why to drive for them. However, everyone has poor reviews, and after reading the responses back, and reiterating and explaining the side that was brought up, definitely a company who cares in my eyes. Furthermore, there’s always going to be issues wherever you go no matter how big or small. There’s traffic in trucking, and somehow it’s the company’s fault; I have a flat (company’s fault); in trucking, there’s always going to be a breakdown, if you haven’t had a breakdown or hit traffic, apparently either you drove for a shift and quit, or never drove a rig. I just put my application in Driver Pulse and can’t wait to speak with them in their flatbed division. People complain about money in the trucking industry, those are the same people who decline loads, and sit for their dream loads all the time, but if you want to make money, you have to work for it. Got to bust your a** to make money. Trucking is not for the faint hearted. People think trucking is just steering wheel holders, only if they knew, but it’s life! As a veteran, Eagle Scout, former OTR trainer, I definitely am looking forward to speaking with this company! :) just buckle down, do what you’re supposed to, drive, and KEEP THAT LEFT DOOR SHUT! 😊 wonder how the truck selection process works 🤔I’ll find out soon!
One of your drivers pulled out right in front of me. Hwy 150 south and the junction of 380 in IA. I was traveling south on 150 when all of sudden he pulled out in front of me. I had to come to a complete stop, so we won't have an accident. I am a truck driver and didn't appreciate that he didn't wait till I went past not paying attention, which is not an excuse. I had my lights. Wasn't able to get the truck number this happened 5/29/2024 the time never looked at the clock around noon, I think.
Was working with a recruiter by the name of Shallyne. And this was one of the worst experience with a company to apply for. The verification process is a must, by companies. But the process that she took with my past employers was so abnormal and it begin to get awkward afterwards. Had her talk to my past supervisor and she wanted him to fill out forms for some strange reason, to verify his position with the past company. As if to say that I may have been lying or that he may have been lying. I got the implications of it and thought they went too far. That was a bit too much, I thought. And I stop the process all together. It was too much for nothing.
was approved and was about to go to work for this company. just like all mega company’s…the recruiter was a salesman he told me next time he was going to call me was for my rental car. next thing i know it’s a week later and he’s calling me for a drug test and physical a few days before i was suppose to leave…of course that was an hour drive away at last notice while he knew i was approved for over a week do some research about how they make you sign a contract for 6 months once you get to orientation or you owe them for orientation costs. i don’t have a problem with that. but i do when they don’t tell you about it.
Worked in this company for 6 months and I honestly can tell you that they do care about their drivers and they treat drivers like family. Appreciate every experience with Decker. Thanks Met drivers that have even worked for 25+years for this company
Do NOT go to work for this company they are shady as all get out and don't tell you until you're already there and on your 3rd and final day of orientation that if you do not stay at least 6 months you will be billed for orientation costs..give you a letter to sign on that day where you are already a week in and trapped because if you don't sign it, you will have to find your own way back home and not get what's owed to you for your orientation pay. They also falsely advertised the jobs minimum guaranteed pay and when I pointed that out to Jason in Missoula no attempt to honor what I applied for was made...update because can't reply to the response NONE OF THIS WAS discussed before by my recruiter and I was not given these things to sign until day 3 and I brought the incorrect minimum pay to Bryan's attempt and was ignored told later to just sign the expectations letter and he would research it. I have proof that the reefer position advertised $1500 minimum pay so am seeking legal action.
Home away from home, everyone here is professional and respectful. Staff is awesome to work and it's just all together a friendly and down to earth environment. Coming from Kansas city Missouri. This is my home terminal.
so far it's I nice company to work for..
An absolute blessing to have worked for this company! Always treated me fairly. Never micromanage me. They were fair and honest with me. The only negative was the miles were up and down from one week to the next! Excellent company for veterans and a awesome starter company for new drivers. They truly do care about the drivers here. I never had a problem with working hard for them. On time loads kept CSA scores at zero on my end in addition kept them clean!! Fulfilled two weeks notice and was paid for all miles driven in those two weeks!! No shady business! When turned in my truck spent a few hours cleaning it and mopping it for next driver. The pros outweigh the cons here for sure!! Excellent equipment and great maintenance team! If I ever decided to go back OTR. I would surely choose DTL!!
Can't be beaten...the best company I've ever worked for! Decker will treat you with the respect you deserve as a driver. They will bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you need, and if there's anything at home they will do whatever it takes to get you there ASAP! You won't find a better company to drive for.
I love this company!! They really seem to care about you and its like a big family and other drivers are always willing to help you if needed and are always friendly.
Wanted to join Decker Truck Line because they have nice equipment that I’ve seen around the block, with my 2 years of OTR reefer experience I’d be a great asset to their team but they won’t allow my cat… even offered the recruiter a $500 deposit but he said no. I feel like they got this policy wrong… if someone over at the Decker hierarchy see this, please reach out to me and we can work something out…
I Drive for Decker. Best place to work. We are like Family. I've been driving for Decker since 2018. Our Company has been growing like crazy since I first started. My main 2 Decker Yards are Missoula & Fort Dodge. They treat me Awesome each time I come to the yards. They always address any concerns or issues I may have at the time. They also keep my truck running in tip top condition. Keep a Positive Attitude and Communicate any issues. Both Personal and Mechanical. They can't fix an issue if they don't know about it. Communication and having a Positive Attitude are the Keys to an Awesome Future with Decker!!!
Work hard for them, persevere...and you will be rewarded. You get what you give. Keep your mouth closed, "yes sir", and be professional.
Things started off well, but recent changes have been disappointing. If you’re comfortable with constant monitoring, this might be the place for you. Home time used to be reliable, but now it’s uncertain. There are worse companies out there, but this one is no longer a good fit for me after years in the industry.
What is the best part of working at the company? A great company that was always patient and helpful when I struggled to find a location. They genuinely took care of me. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Southern California—parking is nearly impossible. There should be a large drop-off point north of L.A. for local drivers to complete runs since out-of-town drivers aren’t welcome. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Great—whenever I needed something, whether paperwork or assistance, someone was always willing to help. What is a typical day like for you at the company? I was a driver, working my full 70-hour week.
I’ll always appreciate Decker for training me as a rookie, and I even stayed for over a year after completing my training. My flatbed instructor played a huge role in my success, and I’ll always be grateful for that. However, home time was a constant issue—I could never make doctor’s appointments on time. The pay was about 25% below industry average, and they wouldn’t work with me to improve my miles or salary. Even after showing them better offers from other companies, they refused to negotiate, so I left—and it turned out to be one of the best financial decisions I’ve made. The safety department was another major problem. Overfunded and overly critical, they monitored drivers constantly and called them in for minor infractions, wasting time and miles. Despite five years in trucking without a single collision, they still micromanaged my driving. Their focus was more on keeping trucks within AI parameters than on actual driving. Since leaving Decker, my stress levels have dropped, and my road rage has disappeared—largely because I no longer have to comply with unrealistic safety policies. Overall, I put in a lot of hours for a company that was overly critical of my time and performance. I wouldn’t recommend them unless you’re a rookie looking for training, though I’m unsure if they still offer it.
My fleet manager was great to work with, and Decker maintains its equipment well. I never felt pressured to drive unsafe trucks or operate in hazardous weather. My main frustration was dealing with other departments (night operations, wash bay, etc.), where passing the buck was common.
Most coworkers are friendly and approachable. Management communicates well and responds quickly. Scheduling home time is easy, and they go out of their way to accommodate requests. Safety is truly the top priority at Decker.
Mostly hauling drywall, with few other options. The trucks are among the slowest on the road, and loads average just 200 miles. Honestly, you’d make more money working at McDonald’s and be home every night.
I started with minimal experience and have steadily increased my earnings—from $48,000 in my first year to $104,000 in my fourth. Midwest reefer runs include Chicago, Kansas City, and Omaha, with 34-hour home resets on weekends. Insurance is decent, and the trucks are fairly new.
Currently discussing bonus and guaranteed pay with management. Work Hound surveys are positive, and operations staff are helpful and respectful.
An excellent company to work for. Training is top-notch, and management genuinely looks out for drivers. They could improve home time scheduling, but overall, it’s a great place.
A decent workplace with fair treatment, reasonable pay, and good home time. It’s a typical large carrier with solid facilities and well-maintained trucks.
Work-life balance was poor, and they frequently threatened to reseat drivers who needed extra time off for appointments or personal matters.
Decker Truck Line has been the best trucking company I’ve worked for. I’ve been with other companies, but this one stands out. Everything about them has been top-tier for me—I have no complaints. Go Team Decker! Thanks for everything.
A great company for OTR drivers. They treat employees well, and dispatchers see drivers as individuals, not just numbers. If I stay in OTR, this will always be my company.
Decker is an outstanding company—one of the best I’ve worked for. The pay was solid, and the truck was fully equipped. It’s the only company I’ve left that I would consider returning to.
I enjoyed working at Decker and would love to go back. They relied on me when other drivers couldn’t handle their loads. I avoided cities I didn’t trust, but I wish I had communicated more with the office—that was my mistake. They supported me through thick and thin. I was happy to see them recognize their first female driver, and I was rewarded for the miles I ran early on. They listened to drivers and worked with them, which meant a lot. The downside was dealing with messy drivers at the yards.
