Best company to drive for! they give you the support you need to keep running, and treat you like family while doing it! -six year company driver/owner operator
They definitely know how to dispatch! You won't be sitting around waiting for a load. The people here are really nice and the equipment is no frills but very well maintained. Parking is not an issue because they have terminals (with really nice showers) and drop lots. No waiting in line at the truckstop for fuel, there is fuel at the terminals. Better than most pay and benefits. 48 hours (not necessarily two days) hometime weekly.
My time working for this company was not a pleasent one. During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic they refused to disinfect their trucks before placing another driver in the seat. My truck broke down constantly and when it was fixed they gave it to another driver to drive with all my stuff in it. When I got it back finally it broke down again. 14 -16 hrs every day. You will live for houff and it's not worth it at all. They will try to bad mouth drivers who have worked there...terrible!!!!
My husband works there. Great business to work for.
Avoid this company at all costs! They keep you waiting too long. Management and dispatch are difficult to work with. I do not recommend this company. They seem hostile.
Work is generally stable, but expect many long days. You only work from Monday to Friday and have weekends off! They offer a 401k and profit sharing with company matching!
Work-life balance There is no work-life balance at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC. Expect 14-16 hour days. All that matters is the freight... Pay & benefits My pay and benefits at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC were quite good. Job security and advancement Job security at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC is almost non-existent if you are not in total agreement with everything they do. Overall My experience at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC was very different. They will take your assigned truck, when it comes out of the shop, and give it to another driver without hesitation during this time of Covid.
Pay could be better, and there is not consistent work on most days. However, they have great people who manage and work there; it’s just not enough to live off of.
Dispatch plans are ready, pretrip is ready. Routes are organized and ready. Delivery or loads are organized and ready. Management communicates with drivers. Very culture-oriented.
What is the best part of working at the company? There are no pros to working this job; the hours are very long, and the pay is small. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The very long hours for which you get minimum wage for on-duty time. What is a typical day like for you at the company? A typical day includes long hours, a lot of live loads and unloads. You sit for hours with low pay, then they make you drive long hours after you waste your day sitting. Don’t expect them to understand your family life; it’s all about their freight.
Great company to work for. Had a very good time and a very good run with Houff. If the pay was a little bit more and dispatch was managed better, I’d probably go back.
The days tended to be long, and the hourly pay was good, but it felt like management could play favorites at times. Sometimes I felt like I was walking on eggshells when one of the "important people" from The Cave happened to be there. I was told on more than one occasion that they took notice if you were more than a few minutes late to clock in. It was their way or the highway, period. The best parts were that after I had been an OTR driver for years, going to work there finally gave me the opportunity to work locally and still make a living for myself and my family. I knew I would have every weekend off at home. The hardest parts were that I had to get out of bed every morning at 5:00 a.m. to be there by 7:00 (it was over an hour's drive to work). If the day was particularly long and I had to make the long drive home, it made for very little sleep. Sometimes I felt like I got more sleep when I was on the road before I went local. Sometimes I had long waits at shippers, but after a while, I realized that it didn't matter because I was getting paid by the hour. It took me a while to get out of the mindset that I wasn't making any money by sitting around waiting because I had been over-the-road for so long. Among the worst things was feeling compelled to cross picket lines at places that were on strike as it was subtly made known that it was a "do it or else" situation, and it made me very uncomfortable. I never felt secure in my job. The bottom line? It's been years since I worked there, and I'm retired now, but I think that if I had the opportunity to go back, I most likely wouldn't. Too much stress for my taste. If any of the big shots were to happen to read this, I figure they'll know who I am, but I have long since stopped caring. The only reason I even visited this site today is that out of the blue, I happened to dream about the place last night. Otherwise, I haven't even thought about the "Huffy" in years and years. I wouldn't mind seeing some of my "fellow locals" again, but that was all a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Work-life balance Work-life balance at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC is not really good; you get home long enough to eat and sleep during the week. The hours are ridiculous. Start times change every day, so no routine for sleeping. Pay & benefits My pay and benefits at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC were below average. 60-80 hours a week at $13.75 when you figure the hours. Job security and advancement In terms of job security at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC, I think Don't know, but they have a lot of drivers who have been there for 20+ years. Management In general, managers at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC were pleasant, but dispatch was not so much; they have no concept of time or the driver. More training is needed. They need more info for new drivers about the shippers they haul for to help save new drivers some time. Overall My experience working at HOUFF TRANSFER, INC Was there for 3 weeks, and the trucks are old. I broke down 2 times. One of the breakdowns, I sat in the truck for 5.5 hours and ended up in a hotel overnight 2:00 hrs from home and terminal. They have the ability to be a great company but lack equipping the new driver with the details of their shippers so the driver can do his job effectively. A lot of wasted time waiting on info as well as once you get assignments.
Will tarnish your character. Trust third-party word over there on drivers. Know your drivers and defend them over enraged motorists. Guess Covid-19 was a reason to get rid of personnel. Right-to-work state benefits companies, not the hardworking people making them millions.
Good staff and energetic co-workers. Nice trucks. The loads were easy to secure. Friendly customers. Nice health benefits. Houff is a very productive company to work with.
Be ready to lose .05 cpm for the whole week if you take off one day in that week to go to the doctor, sick, or whatever. Don’t want you to have an opinion; it’s Houff way or no way.
Owners are a bunch of snoops; they walk right by you and not speak to you half the time. You have no security of your job whatsoever; they just as soon walk in and fire you for nothing as to look at you. Zane Houff is nothing but a joke.
They will run you; don’t make any plans because you will not be able to. They do not pay overtime if you are an hourly driver. High deductible medical insurance.
Working for Houff was a great experience; as a company, they offer great benefits and great pay. In addition to just a job, they treat you like family.
Very good company to work for. Long hours, benefits okay, not much home time. Older equipment; wish the management would up the speeds on their trucks. Hope they would let drivers go to different customers.
