Going through orientation now. This seems like a great company so far. George is very experienced and shares his knowledge and is very helpful. Looking forward to working for them.
New to trucking this was first job. All in all my experience with landair was great. Fleet manager and dispatch were responsive, up front and fair. Over the road is exactly that and there may be times where you don’t get to go home when you want but I’m sure that par for course and I’m pretty sure it’s not personal when you can’t go home when you like. Whenever I talked to another driver they were also satisfied. I would recommend this company to any driver regardless of experience.
The staff was really RACIST…I would tell my full story but this just happened this week. So I’m really upset about it. I’m happy I made some really good female friends but I do not ever want to even go back to the state of Tennessee because of the things I saw and witnessed with other drivers and myself. They even sent in one African American man to tell me they didn’t want me to drive for them. This company should not be in business. I felt unsafe as I was about to leave but for no reason at all they sent another guy home and we had a flight together. I’ve never experienced racism at this level before but I know I don’t ever want nobody to feel like I did. I should have known better when the African American instructor who came to visit kept throwing me hints. I’m a very diverse person who loves meeting people from all over the world. We should have never went through this.
Stay away from this company! Just absolutely horrible experience. From them trying to force me into driving unsafe equipment, to incorrect pay, to putting an accident on my record that I never had!!!! I already have things in motion to make sure this company is held liable legally!! Stay away from the parent company covenant as well!!! They operate together.
I have screenshots and voice-mail recordings of a Landair recruiter offering me a position at landair hauling GM car parts that paid $300 per day. 1st day in orientation, the old guy told everyone not to ask him about pay because none of us were hired yet. Who would sit thru an orientation before getting hired, anyway after getting thru orientation, they offered me the position at a different pay, .55+/-(can't remember exactly)cpm instead of the $300 per day. This company is not trustworthy nor professional. HR doesn't exist and payroll works 1 day out the week so if corrections are needed you'll have to wait at least another week. I believe everyone at the Lavergne terminal location from dispatchers to managers are blood related because they all lie about anything big or small. The trucks and trailers have 2 to 3 company names on them so you don't know who the hell you driving for. My truck said star transportation on the doors and srt on the roof. The trailers say covenant landair or star...stay away from Landair Transport, Covenant, Star transportation!!!!
I work for this company for A month and was told to bring my truck back to Greeneville as soon as possible and terminated when I arrived with no explanation. One of the company associates told me that I alledgedly cursed at A shipper which is something I have never done in my years as A truck driver. They even put me on an unnecessary 2 day bus ride that went from TN, MS, AL, GA, SC then finally to NC where I was dropped off in Sanford which has NO BUS STATION, no way to catch A Lyft, Uber, etc. when I told them prior that it was easier for me to go to Fayetteville. Very unprofessional how I was treated, terminated and sent home.
This is the worst company I would recommend that you not come to this company they are very unorganized all the drivers are quitting. They talk a good game to get you here and once here it is something totally different. I was supposed to be a regional driver out of Dallas I get here and they have OTR some of everywhere. Do not I repeat do not come work for this company I promise you will regret that decision. Even the places where they have you to deliver to don't like the company. Plus the equipment is trash.
Worse 6 months I ever did with a company but it’s not even the company honestly my dispatchers were terrible 2 of em were Monica & The other guy Mike he just sits around and lies on you and Monica messes up pay every week they both deserve to be fired and them 2 don’t work with you AT ALL or even try to help you be great it’s all about them and they will try to leave you out and miss hometime on purpose whatever helps them sleep at night they don’t care they will ruin your entire health so if you have them 2 I advise you to switch to another account ASAP
These folks prioritize nothing but ensuring your load arrives on time. Watch your mileage closely because they are incredibly sneaky.
No work-life balance, insurance rejects all claims, and absolutely no driver support. The only decent aspect is the pay, but even that isn't remarkable. Expect to be on hold with breakdown assistance for over six hours, only for them to hang up, call back once to make it appear as if they tried, then immediately disconnect when you answer. Dispatchers and managers are utterly useless and offer no assistance.
What is the best part of working at the company? The people were nice, the pay was good, and home time was reasonable. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Some job sites take way too long to process loads. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Positive, stress-free, and has good communication. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Long hours on the road—some days exhausting—but that’s trucking.
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing—the company treats its employees horribly. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Getting written up for being sick. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Highly toxic and aggressive.
A straightforward route running between Virginia and Atlanta with return loads. The worst part is being in Atlanta.
Drivers are not a priority here. They disregard your home time, cancel loads without warning, and leave you stranded without an explanation.
What is the best part of working at the company? The pay was the only somewhat decent factor. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? No matter how the weight was distributed, tentems were always overloaded. Wasted hours returning to the shipper for trailer adjustments—with no compensation. They claimed it was 95% drop-and-hook, but in reality, it was far lower. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The managers were great, and the company itself had potential. However, the recruiter completely misrepresented key aspects like load weight, route details, and drop-and-hook frequency. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Picking up a load from Dr. Pepper in Columbus, Ohio, driving to one of three drops in Pennsylvania, then either landing a rare drop-and-hook or waiting three to five hours for unloading/reloading. Returning to Columbus for another drop at one of three locations. The recruiter falsely claimed it would be a straightforward pick-up in Columbus, delivery in Pennsylvania, and return with pallets—total deception.
What is the best part of working at the company? There’s nothing good about working here. If this is your only choice, get your three months of OTR experience and then leave as fast as possible. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Everything. Specifically, the Landair (Sonoco) dispatch and management for this account are highly unprofessional, offering one-sided communication—they talk at you but refuse to listen. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Horrible. My previous responses covered everything. What is a typical day like for you at the company? You’re stuck in your truck until they decide to release you.
It's a solid company for beginners, but I want growth and a brighter future. For what it is, it serves its purpose. I’d recommend it to new drivers.
What is the best part of working at the company? Getting paid weekly—that’s about it. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Being away from family while never getting the miles they promised. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Look it up yourself and you’ll see the truth. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Just another stressful experience.
Decent pay, but absolutely terrible management. Backstabbing and petty gossip run rampant. A quick Google search will reveal the same names tied to incompetence.
Your daily schedule is unpredictable, so planning outside of work is impossible. If you're late or sick, expect your paycheck to be slashed in half.
