Was a driver here for about six months until medically retired from driving a commercial vehicle. This is an honest review from my time and experience with Pohl Transportation. I actually enjoyed working at Pohl, everybody I dealt with on a daily basis was nice/friendly and kept that "attitude" daily. Dispatch: The only real issue that I did have was on the dispatch side. The biggest complaint I had was they would plan/send you a load and not pay attention to your clock. There were several times that I would have "late" loads because dispatch would send me a load that I either didn't have time to pick up or have the time to deliver. When I had to leave they were working on resolving this issue. Saftey: Safety is awesome, absolutely zero complaints in that department. Equipment: The equipment is either new or next to new and well maintained. Orientation: Is a breeze and they try to fast track it to get you out on the road and making money. Last but not least, if you want a good company to drive for I would definitely recommend going over to Pohl, they will keep you moving and you are a name/face and not just another truck number. Again this is an honest review from a previous driver and not some paid review. To the Pohl Transportation team I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience a smaller company that has kept their values.

I haven’t driven for this company. At least not yet but hopefully I’m successful. Their reviews from current drivers are very encouraging and if they live up to their promises I could see myself retiring from this company in quite a few of years. The staff I’ve interacted with over the phone have also been very respectful and also give me a strong positive desire to be a part of their team.

If you wanna be home on time do not go here, They "won't have freight" to get u back home. Another thing is dispatch will tell you their slow but will not touch broker loads unless they absolutely have to. Equipment and shop are fantastic but biggest problem is no communication within the main office as well.

I have been working here for 3.5 months now. I have read a lot of the reviews of others who work or worked here. I have no idea why they're so negative. Orientation was fine and I read everything they wanted me to sign, that's just the way I do things, and no one rushed me through it. In fact I had food poison in orientation and they made sure I was ok and helped take care of my dog while in orientation. My miles continue to increase each week bit there are some weeks that are better than others, but that is anywhere in trucking. I have always made it home every weekend unless I decided to stay out. Most of my home time was 48 hours or more with a load to deliver close to me after home time. I have ran company and broker freight and never once was told there was no freight or that they were slow. I have never waiti3d for loads and am dispatched my next load before I deliver. The entire company staff are very friendly, know you by name whether in person or on the phone, I have been paid every cent of detention, parking and other reimbursements without having to wait or ask to be paid. Maintenance is excellent and vehicles and trailers are well maintained. I have been driving for 9.5 years and this is by far the best company I've worked for. They do care and they show it. I would guess those of you who have given bad reviews, aren't telling the while story. I would recommend this company to any driver looking for a home. As a veteran of the military they recognize and appreciate that too. If you communicate with them, they will do what they can to accommodate you, whether it's getting groceries or medications...etc.... Herbert Shuttles I am not a member of the office staff. I challenge you to prove otherwise. As for your medications, why didn't you just go to a pharmacy on the road? You could have done that on your 10 hour or 30 minute break. I have done that and it just takes planning it into your trip. You made your point about the company wasn't a fit for you. Why keep writing more reviews? It makes you look bitter, silly and like a troll. Perhaps it's time for you to move on to what you think are better opportunities.

I worked at Pohl for almost 3 years and I can honestly say that I don’t have one bad thing to say about them. Only reason I quit was because I wanted to try my hand at leasing a truck ( bad move!) Now I’m doing local stuff so I can be home more, otherwise I would have gone back to Pohl. I got plenty of miles ( sure, there were some times that I didn’t. But if you’ve been in the trucking industry for any amount of time, you know that freight gets slow around February/March). The people in the office ( Brian, Rebecca, Angie, Pam, Meghan, Travis etc ) were always professional, courteous and helpful! It always had a “ Family” feel to it. I miss most of my driver buddies from there, but we still keep in touch. If you want Great miles, great office help, and an awesome shop team, GO TO POHL!!

This company started out good for the first couple weeks, then my miles went down. Then I get 3 Pepsi loads and had over 15 hours detention between the 3 of them. They never paid me one dime of detention. Then the straw that broke me was I followed company policy and gave them 2 weeks notice for a doctor appointment and King Travis (Head of Dispatch) told me I couldn't get home a day early so I could make my appointment. I told him I would be home and he sent me home 2 days early. Then I ended up sitting at home for 5 days because he was mad. They ended up charging $600 on my last pay for hotel room during orientation and for my drug screen. Worst company I ever drove for. They need to get rid of Travis and they might retain drivers.

I've been here only 6 months but it's turning out to be a very good place to work as driver. Worked for a mega "orange" carrier group before signing on here and I didnt realize how bad drivers were treated till working here. I learned to avoid going to the office, talking to any office personnel on the phone, keep all communications thru the ELD. At first I probably had them thinking I was crazy as hard as I worked to avoid the office, but they give there drivers respect, and they use your name not a number. After orientation and by the way the hotel u stay in is extremely nice with upscale dining and they pay for your food 3 meals couldn't believe it. But as most drivers know when you go to a truck for the first time unless its brand new it's normal nasty, but I almost fell over when I opened the door to my truck I swear to God the interior had been detailed and it smelled good and the cabinets wasnt trashed Seriously I was full jaw dropper pose at that point. If your wondering why such a "good company" only got 4 stars it's simple there's always room for improvement, but if good treatment, home time, respect is what your looking for honestly try Pohl. I'm 40 and would have been the "YOUNG GUY" serious there drivers dont leave it's like a truck driver retirement community here, there's apple sauce everywhere. Give Pohl a chance I promise you won't be disappointed.

Pay and benefits are poor, and the routes aren’t great. Hometime is minimal—usually just a 34-hour reset before heading back out. If you’re not a favorite, don’t expect time off. Dispatch plays favorites, and if you upset them, expect fewer miles for a while.

Everyone from management to shop personnel knows your name. Dispatch takes a couple of months to assess your driving style, but after that, you can count on good miles. I’ve been here two years, earning $70,000 my first year and $71,000 my second. Great trucks—mostly 2019–2022 Volvo VNL 860 models. 85% drop and hook. Home for at least a 34-hour reset every weekend, and if you need the full weekend, just ask. A solid company to work for.

I retired from Pohl in January 2022 after nine years. Most of my time there was great! Good hometime, averaging 2,800 miles per week. No trucking company is perfect, but Pohl was the right fit for me. Dispatch was excellent, open-door policy, and well-maintained equipment. Compensation covered nearly all work, including breakdown pay. If you’re looking for a solid company, check them out!

Worst management I’ve ever encountered—too many people trying to be in charge, not enough teamwork. Dispatch messes up scheduling, doesn’t communicate well, and fails to check drivers’ hours of service before assigning loads. Fleet maintenance is outstanding—the mechanics go above and beyond to keep trucks running and answer any questions. Pay is good, but drivers aren’t respected when raising concerns with dispatch. They overwork their best employees while catering to the worst ones.

This company is terrible to work for. They assign loads without checking hours of service. They don’t respect drivers with medical conditions—if you need to avoid certain areas due to health concerns, they won’t accommodate you. If a doctor provides an excuse for time off, they’ll terminate you. They pay $0.50 per mile for all dispatched miles, regardless of the actual route taken. They falsely claim to be an essential business just because they haul dog food. They deduct $50 from your paycheck if you drive the truck during hometime but don’t honor their own policy.

I worked here for over a year and made good money. They genuinely try to accommodate drivers needing hometime. When I first arrived, I was warned about the head dispatcher—he was difficult to deal with. I never had issues, but I also didn’t constantly call in or try to tell them how to do their job. I went nearly four months without hearing from office personnel—my loads were always ready. Trucks are well-maintained like clockwork. Pros:Good pay, decent insurance, and a company where effort pays off. Cons: Lack of communication—updates about company performance are nonexistent, leading to rumors and a weak team mentality. Tattletales thrive here. They discourage taking full 10-hour breaks, preferring 8-hour resets. **Summary: I’d recommend Pohl to family or friends, but double-check everything, especially delivery times. **Post 2-Year Summary: I no longer work here. They abruptly ended my employment, instructed me to clean out my truck and finish my delivery before returning it to the yard. The VP assured me I’d be paid for all work, but they failed to compensate me for four days of layover pay. When I reached out, they claimed it wasn’t their department. Now I’m pursuing unpaid wages through the U.S. Labor Board. They acknowledged I was owed layover pay, and I have texts from dispatch instructing me to park. I never expected wage theft or termination like this.
