Was a driver here for about six months until medically retired from driving a commercial vehicle. This is an honest review from my time and experience with Pohl Transportation. I actually enjoyed working at Pohl, everybody I dealt with on a daily basis was nice/friendly and kept that "attitude" daily. Dispatch: The only real issue that I did have was on the dispatch side. The biggest complaint I had was they would plan/send you a load and not pay attention to your clock. There were several times that I would have "late" loads because dispatch would send me a load that I either didn't have time to pick up or have the time to deliver. When I had to leave they were working on resolving this issue. Saftey: Safety is awesome, absolutely zero complaints in that department. Equipment: The equipment is either new or next to new and well maintained. Orientation: Is a breeze and they try to fast track it to get you out on the road and making money. Last but not least, if you want a good company to drive for I would definitely recommend going over to Pohl, they will keep you moving and you are a name/face and not just another truck number. Again this is an honest review from a previous driver and not some paid review. To the Pohl Transportation team I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience a smaller company that has kept their values.
I haven’t driven for this company. At least not yet but hopefully I’m successful. Their reviews from current drivers are very encouraging and if they live up to their promises I could see myself retiring from this company in quite a few of years. The staff I’ve interacted with over the phone have also been very respectful and also give me a strong positive desire to be a part of their team.
If you wanna be home on time do not go here, They "won't have freight" to get u back home. Another thing is dispatch will tell you their slow but will not touch broker loads unless they absolutely have to. Equipment and shop are fantastic but biggest problem is no communication within the main office as well.
I have been working here for 3.5 months now. I have read a lot of the reviews of others who work or worked here. I have no idea why they're so negative. Orientation was fine and I read everything they wanted me to sign, that's just the way I do things, and no one rushed me through it. In fact I had food poison in orientation and they made sure I was ok and helped take care of my dog while in orientation. My miles continue to increase each week bit there are some weeks that are better than others, but that is anywhere in trucking. I have always made it home every weekend unless I decided to stay out. Most of my home time was 48 hours or more with a load to deliver close to me after home time. I have ran company and broker freight and never once was told there was no freight or that they were slow. I have never waiti3d for loads and am dispatched my next load before I deliver. The entire company staff are very friendly, know you by name whether in person or on the phone, I have been paid every cent of detention, parking and other reimbursements without having to wait or ask to be paid. Maintenance is excellent and vehicles and trailers are well maintained. I have been driving for 9.5 years and this is by far the best company I've worked for. They do care and they show it. I would guess those of you who have given bad reviews, aren't telling the while story. I would recommend this company to any driver looking for a home. As a veteran of the military they recognize and appreciate that too. If you communicate with them, they will do what they can to accommodate you, whether it's getting groceries or medications...etc.... Herbert Shuttles I am not a member of the office staff. I challenge you to prove otherwise. As for your medications, why didn't you just go to a pharmacy on the road? You could have done that on your 10 hour or 30 minute break. I have done that and it just takes planning it into your trip. You made your point about the company wasn't a fit for you. Why keep writing more reviews? It makes you look bitter, silly and like a troll. Perhaps it's time for you to move on to what you think are better opportunities.
I worked at Pohl for almost 3 years and I can honestly say that I don’t have one bad thing to say about them. Only reason I quit was because I wanted to try my hand at leasing a truck ( bad move!) Now I’m doing local stuff so I can be home more, otherwise I would have gone back to Pohl. I got plenty of miles ( sure, there were some times that I didn’t. But if you’ve been in the trucking industry for any amount of time, you know that freight gets slow around February/March). The people in the office ( Brian, Rebecca, Angie, Pam, Meghan, Travis etc ) were always professional, courteous and helpful! It always had a “ Family” feel to it. I miss most of my driver buddies from there, but we still keep in touch. If you want Great miles, great office help, and an awesome shop team, GO TO POHL!!
I had a friend of a friend and he just started with this company. I also decided maybe I should check them out and ill say. Yes I got my online app done and the person that handles the processing is a wonderful delightful person. That is a big reason I would like to work there. It seems like they actually care and do there job very well that is great thanks looking forward to a fresh new start
I’ve been driving for 27 years and just went through the hiring process with Pohl and Angie was the best i’ve dealt with, haven’t drove for them yet but so far they seem genuine, this industry needs more of that
This company started out good for the first couple weeks, then my miles went down. Then I get 3 Pepsi loads and had over 15 hours detention between the 3 of them. They never paid me one dime of detention. Then the straw that broke me was I followed company policy and gave them 2 weeks notice for a doctor appointment and King Travis (Head of Dispatch) told me I couldn't get home a day early so I could make my appointment. I told him I would be home and he sent me home 2 days early. Then I ended up sitting at home for 5 days because he was mad. They ended up charging $600 on my last pay for hotel room during orientation and for my drug screen. Worst company I ever drove for. They need to get rid of Travis and they might retain drivers.
You do not wanna work for this company . they have no freight the The operation manager Travis sucks I promise you don't wanna work here have to get a lawyer just to get my last check after I quit they charged me 300 dollars for there orientation. and 80 for there drug test and 200 for miles when I took there truck back I worked here for 8 months of hell I suprized they didn't charge me for the air in each tire who the hell charges for orientation I have the photo of my check
JUST A WORD OF ADVICE FOR EVERYONE DO NOT DRIVE FOR THIS LIEING GOOD FOR NOTHING COMPANY AND SCUM BAG TRAVIS AND SCUMBAG RICK WILL SCREW YOU WITH A LOT OF SITTING AND IF YOU QUIT THEY TAKE YOUR LAST TWO PAYCHECKS AND TAKE FOOD MONEY AWAY FROM YOUR FAMILY I USED TO BE A DRIVER FOR POHL SO GLAD I LEFT THEM THEY WAIT TILL YOU DROP YOUR LOAD AND THEN START LOOKING FOR ANOTHER LOAD THEY SCREW YOU EVERY WAY THEY CAN AND YOU HAVE TO FIGHT TO GET HOME FOR HOMETIME
These guys are a real class act. I’ve worked here a short time, but I felt like family from the start. I have to leave because of family duties, but I’ll break down what makes them a great carrier to work for.
I've been here only 6 months but it's turning out to be a very good place to work as driver. Worked for a mega "orange" carrier group before signing on here and I didnt realize how bad drivers were treated till working here. I learned to avoid going to the office, talking to any office personnel on the phone, keep all communications thru the ELD. At first I probably had them thinking I was crazy as hard as I worked to avoid the office, but they give there drivers respect, and they use your name not a number. After orientation and by the way the hotel u stay in is extremely nice with upscale dining and they pay for your food 3 meals couldn't believe it. But as most drivers know when you go to a truck for the first time unless its brand new it's normal nasty, but I almost fell over when I opened the door to my truck I swear to God the interior had been detailed and it smelled good and the cabinets wasnt trashed Seriously I was full jaw dropper pose at that point. If your wondering why such a "good company" only got 4 stars it's simple there's always room for improvement, but if good treatment, home time, respect is what your looking for honestly try Pohl. I'm 40 and would have been the "YOUNG GUY" serious there drivers dont leave it's like a truck driver retirement community here, there's apple sauce everywhere. Give Pohl a chance I promise you won't be disappointed.
Best trucking company I've ever worked for. I highly recommend them if you're looking for a straight forward job. Best trucks, pretty good dispatch and excellent miles.
I normally do not do reviews on companies I work for. But I will do one for Pohl Transportation! I have only been employed here for about a month. So far I give them 5 stars. They are a smaller company and they treat you like a professional and not just another truck driver. I have found my forever home hopefully!
I am a truck driver I work at this company they are awesome they take really good care of their drivers I've been here roughly 3 weeks I have no complaints they get me home on time the equipment is top-notch the shop is a five-star shop they're very knowledgeable on a lot of stuff on the trucks and the staff is amazing this is the best company I have work for in all my years of truck driving I have no complaints
Great Company i have worked with and around there drivers since 2014.....Now I'm a driver trk 620!! If u need anything give me a holler!! We Have Great Trucks Good Pay And Great Benefits!!!! Inquire Today!!! Remember Trk 677!!
They really care about their drivers. They keep you running, and if you need time off, as long as you ask in advance they will give it to you, no questions ask. best company I have worked for.
If l had to think of anything bad to say about Pohl there it's any made me feel like family. All good enjoy my time keep you moving get you home and take care of there own
great family appmasphere well maintained equipment was also at pohl from 2018 to 2020 had problems trying to physical in March 2020 care about the driver when sick.
They talk about you through emails to each other. They make up lies also as they go. If you work for this company, you will then quit within 6 months
Not a bad company. Had to come off the road though. A lot of pet food loads and running North East. They also do a lot of Kohl’s loads running from NJ to OH.
Very good regional company. Terrific equipment and the shop is great. If you have a problem they fix it. Management is like I’ve never seen they understand the drivers have life’s outside of the truck and they work hard to keep us happy.
Pay and benefits are poor. Bad routes Good luck with hometime if you get it its 34 or less then leave. Dont ask for time off becuase if you are not a favorite forget about it. Dispatch plays favorites and if you make them mad good luck with miles for awhile.
Everyone from the top down threw to the shop personnel knows your name. Dispatch will take a couple of months when you first start to see what kind of runner you are. After that you can pretty much count on getting good miles. I have been here 2 years I gross over $70000 my first yr & $71,000 my second. Great trucks 2019/2022 VNL 860 Volve clean awesome trk 85% drop & hook .Get home for at least a 34 hr reset every weekend & if you need the whole weekend ask. Give them call, they are good a Company to work for.
Great company to work for. Good equipment, good people, best of the best! Will work with you if you need hometime or have an emergency. Will let you work if you want to work.
I’ve retired from Pohl in January 2022. Spent 9 years there an most of the time it’s been great! Good home time an my average was 2800 miles per week. If your looking for the perfect trucking company, good luck! What’s good for you may not be good for me. For what I was looking for they were a perfect fit! Dispatch was great , open door policy, equipment was well taken care of! You’re basically compensated for most all the work you do, even break down pay. Do yourself a favor an check them out!
Dispatch works with me for when I need home. They have great equipment and miles. You get more familiar with the customers and people you see. They all know your name at the office.
Pohl gets you home when you need home, great office staff and family atmosphere. They have a 5 star maintenance team that is great. They do not treat you like a number and everyone knows your name.
Wish I had found this company years ago! They treat us all like we are family. They get me home most weekends and work with me if I need extra time off for something or if I need to be home during the week. Best trucking company I have worked for.
Pohl is a great place to work, great pay and benefits and they truly make you feel like family and not just a number. Dispatchers are friendly and easy to talk to. They get you home when you need home. If you communicate well, you will succeed at the job.
Excellent equipment, driver managers are top notch and work with me when I need home time. Top Notch Company to driver for. I visit lots of the same customers over and over. This is nice as they start to know you by name also.
Worst management I’ve ever seen from a company. Too many want to be chiefs not enough Indians. Dispatch messes up scheduling and doesn’t communicate well with drivers or check their hours of service before giving loads out. I will say the fleet maintenance is superb. Those guys will go above and beyond to keep you rolling and answer any question you may have. The pay is good but yet you’re not respected or treated like a human being when it comes to raising questions with dispatch. They take their good workers and run them in the ground while catering to the bad ones
This company is a terrible company to work for. They push loads on you without checking your hos,(hours of service). They also do not respect you as a person if you have a disability such as diabetes and you need to stay out of certain hot spots due to the pandemic. If your doctor gives you a doctors excuse saying that you are to be off for a certain amount of time. This company will wrongfully terminate you, which has happened to myself. They pay $.50 cpm for all dispatches miles whether you drive those miles or take a different route. Which does not pay for your time. They also consider themselves essential when they’re not, just because they haul dog food. They make you sign a form that if you drive the truck on home time that they’ll take $50 out of your paycheck and then they don’t honor their word.
Been working here for over a year and while here I made good money, they really do try to accommodate there drivers if they need to get home. When I first got there I was warned to avoid the head dispatcher, he was impossible to get along with. I never had any issues but I didn’t constantly call in or try to tell them how to do there job. I went almost 4 months without hearing from any office personnel, my loads we’re always waiting on me. There trucks are well serviced, like clock work... The Pros: The pay was good, there insurance was okay from what I was told, I had my own coverage. This is definitely a company that the more you put in the more you will get out. The Cons: If you’re the type that likes updates about how the company is doing or if business is up. This is the first company I’ve worked for that was a literal information black hole. U never hear anything unless you ask... Myself I didn’t like that, it allows rumors to run wild, it messes with the team mentality. The tattletales are very alive and well here. Also they don’t want you to take a 10 hr the have people net set at 8hrs. Summary: I’d recommend Pohl to a family member or close friend, but I highly recommend double checking everything especially delivery times. Post 2 year summary: I no longer work there I was called on a Thursday said we’re splitting ways I said okay, was instructed to take truck home clean it out and finish the delivery then bring truck to yard (Yes I did it), before finishing the run I spoke to the V.P (quote) “Your hearing it from the horses mouth you will be paid for all work done.. (end quote) well they did pay me for the miles but failed to pay me for 4 days layover pay. I called the horse for help to work this out but the horse told me not his department nothing he could. Now I’m having to go thru the U.S Labor Board to recoup unpaid wages (Dumb). They even said I’m owed layover, and with the saved texted messages from dispatch to find a truck stop and park. I can’t be more honest they could have asked me to drive the truck thru a building and I would have asked which one, very disappointed didn’t see the wage theft coming really or being fired.
