How to Get a Truck Driving Job With No Experience in California?

Here are ways to get a driving job with no experience in California and rack up some driving experience for your resume.

  • Apply to MANY Carriers. The most essential thing to keep in mind here is to apply to as many transportation firms as possible. The more organizations you apply to, the better your chances of getting hired as a driver.
  • Look for truck driving jobs that do not include driving a tractor-trailer. As a freshly certified CDL driver, there is another option for gaining driving experience. There will always be carriers that operate trucks that are not tractor-trailer units. They are frequently on the lookout for drivers.
  • Straight trucks, dump trucks used by construction businesses, plow and gravel trucks used by townships and county highway departments, service trucks used by railroad companies, and delivery trucks used by lumber yards.

You may drive all of these trucks with your CDL. They're excellent opportunities for acquiring experience and seat time.

As an added plus, because they are paid hourly, these trucking jobs usually nearly pay more than the ordinary OTR driver job.

Many of these positions even have a pension plan. That is a pretty great reward.

It's also worth noting that many OTR trucking firms respect experience driving one of these sorts of trucks, and they accept this driving expertise as experience operating big commercial vehicles.

Hiring trucking businesses frequently don't care if the vehicle isn't a tractor-trailer.

They are searching for commercial drivers with prior experience. If you've been driving a dump truck for a while and haven't had any accidents, you're OK to go.
