Very organized friendly staff
Home daily with weekends off. Runs and bids are assigned based on seniority—lower seniority means fewer miles and later start times. The benefits aren’t great, but overall, it’s not a bad place to work.
The best part of the job is the decent pay—that’s about it. The most stressful aspect is dealing with the games supervisors and managers play. The work environment suffers from frequent truck breakdowns and favoritism. A typical day involves arriving early, getting attitude from a supervisor when asking about the route, loading your own trailer while others have theirs loaded for them, leaving last but returning before most, and then unloading trailers again. Winters in Minnesota are harsh, and the docks have no heat.
The job keeps you busy and involves handheld technology. Management is professional, kind, and provides clear directions. The facility is well-maintained, and coworkers are hardworking. Learning the handheld system takes time, but once you get the hang of it, it’s manageable.
When I worked here under Conway, the work environment was terrible—especially at night. The rush to load trailers led to damaged freight, and veteran employees bullied newcomers. Forklifts were taken from new employees and given to senior workers, forcing manual loading. The only thing that has changed is the company name.
Dock work takes up a lot of time, making it difficult to move up and get better runs. If you don’t mind working on the dock, the job is relatively easy, with decent pay and good benefits.
Poor management is common in many workplaces. Companies prioritize results-driven leadership over empathetic managers, leading to communication breakdowns between management and drivers. XPO Logistics offers good pay, but earnings depend on mileage and hours. New CDL holders or low-seniority drivers may get shorter runs or yard work, especially when freight volume is low. Seniority plays a big role in securing better runs. If you’re considering LTL trucking, expect to start with pickup and delivery or night linehaul. Driving at night can be exhausting, but linehaul is straightforward—hook up trailers and go. XPO Logistics is a solid opportunity, but success requires consistency and resilience in an unpredictable industry.
Management is a joke—they don’t care about employees or their concerns. Training is inadequate, and I wouldn’t recommend XPO as a long-term career. I had high hopes for my first local job, but I’d rather be OTR than deal with this environment. After getting injured on the job, they didn’t even ask if I needed medical attention, likely to protect their safety scores.
It’s an okay place to work if you can tolerate the nonsense. The pay is decent, and drivers are paid weekly. New linehaul drivers run to Blythe, CA, and also handle dock work, making it more of a driver/dock worker position. Management isn’t great and doesn’t prioritize drivers.
Memphis is a tough city to work in due to high crime rates and reckless drivers. Many people show little respect for themselves or their community, which continues to decline.
The workplace fosters mutual respect. Asking for help is easy, and coworkers are always willing to assist. As long as you show up on time, you won’t have any issues.
Pay is minimal for contractors, leaving little profit after expenses. Box truck last-mile contractors often work 18-hour days.
The pay is solid, starting at $37 per hour. Management is efficient, and there’s no room for slacking. It’s a great place to begin a driving career, and I enjoy the job.
This was the worst job I’ve ever had. Drivers had to hide pallet jacks just to do their work, while senior drivers locked up the good ones to avoid using faulty equipment. If you submit a two-week notice, expect to be escorted out immediately. You’ll also be required to work in blizzard conditions, even when the city advises against travel.
A typical day starts with a recap of the previous shift and upcoming tasks. Throughout the day, supervisors provide updates and address any changes. Employees are treated with dignity and respect, and management is always available to listen and assist.
XPO will hire you only to fire you without warning. They need drivers but focus too much on past records. The pay isn’t high enough to justify their strict hiring standards.
I retired in 2021 after 28 years. I worked both linehaul and city P&D, with everyone expected to work the dock at some point. I enjoyed the job but was ready for a less stressful part-time role.
