Michigan State Police (MSP) are currently responding to a major multi-vehicle accident that caused the closure of the westbound section of I-96 near Lowell. The accident occurred just before noon on August 9 in the area of Nash Highway. According to MSP officials, preliminary reports indicate that a semi-truck failed to slow down in traffic and crashed into the rear of a passenger car. As a result, the vehicle spun out of control and into the center lane. The truck driver then collided with another truck, causing a third truck to be involved in the accident.
The driver of the first semi was ejected from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries. They were immediately transported to the hospital for medical attention. The driver of the passenger vehicle was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were found to be non-life threatening. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and the highway is currently closed.
Incidents like this can be incredibly dangerous and often result in serious injuries or fatalities. It is important for drivers to always pay attention to their surroundings on the road and follow the rules of the road. In this case, it appears that the driver of the semi truck failed to slow down in traffic, which ultimately led to the accident. However, we must await the results of the investigation before drawing any definitive conclusions.
The Michigan State Police are working hard to clear the scene of the accident and reopen the highway as soon as possible. In the meantime, drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible. This story is developing and more information will be released as more information becomes available.
