On a Wednesday in Maine, five individuals found themselves injured as a result of two separate pile-up collisions originating from a car fire. The incidents unfolded in Sidney, Maine, around 3:30 p.m. on September 8th, specifically on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.
As reported by The Sun Journal, a Chrysler 300 suddenly caught fire near mile marker 119 on I-95, prompting the driver to swiftly navigate into the breakdown lane. The sight of the ablaze vehicle caused a ripple effect, with traffic gradually slowing down. Unfortunately, an oncoming tractor-trailer failed to adjust its speed, leading to a collision involving three vehicles that were subsequently pushed off the roadway. The aftermath of the crash left one person injured and resulted in a complete standstill of traffic.
In a distressing turn of events, only moments later, a Jeep collided with a stationary car amidst the standstill traffic. This additional impact set off a chain reaction involving a total of 4 vehicles. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by individuals in these vehicles were minor, but all 4 individuals were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
As of now, no additional information has been made available, and authorities continue to conduct an investigation into the series of events.
