A motorist somehow survived a rear-end crash with a semi truck that occurred near a South Carolina rest area on Wednesday. The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on March 22 in on I-94 north at mile marker 47 Colleton County, South Carolina.
Colleton County Fire-Rescue reports that a Florida man in a Toyota pickup was traveling northbound in the median side lane when traffic began to stop, due to construction near the 48 mile marker. The pickup driver tried to swerve across both lanes towards the shoulder but crashed into the back of a semi-truck that was slowing down, causing the pickup to go under the trailer.
Firefighters reported that the collision caused severe damage to the small pickup truck, with the entire driver's side being ripped away in the crash. However, the pickup driver was wearing a seatbelt and was able to exit the damaged vehicle immediately. First responders arrived at the scene and offered medical assistance, but the pickup driver declined to be transported to the hospital. The truck driver was not hurt.
