Early this morning, Mountain Unit sheriff's deputies responded to a tragic one-vehicle collision that occurred in the 4600 block of 225th St Ct E in Spanaway. The sedan was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on 46th Ave E when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle flipped a few times and crashed into a tree and a house.
The driver, identified as an 18-year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Firefighters were able to extract the passenger, a 22-year-old male, and immediately took him to the hospital with life-threatening wounds. The passenger was wearing a seat belt, which probably played a role in his survival.
Fortunately, nobody inside the home was hurt during the collision. However, the incident has left the Spanaway community in shock and mourning. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the use of seatbelts while driving.
