Late last night, Portland Fire Rescue rushed to a two-alarm fire at a tire recycling facility in the St. Johns neighborhood. The flames were so intense that a second alarm was called early on, prompting more crews to arrive. The smoke column was visible from a far distance, and initial crews had to use a ladder truck to extinguish most of the fire. Fortunately, they were able to make progress quickly. An operator onsite used a bulldozer to spread out large piles of recycled tire chips, which helped crews extinguish any hotspots within. This assistance was crucial in containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading further.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to determine what happened. It's a reminder of how important it is to stay vigilant and prioritize safety at all times.
