A team of vigilant firefighters responded to an apartment fire in southeast Portland Saturday morning after noticing a large amount of smoke in the distance. According to the Portland Fire Department (PF&R), the incident occurred just after 10 a.m. when firefighters running errands noticed smoke and decided to deal with it. When they arrived on the scene, they found a one-story apartment on fire and immediately called in additional forces and started battling the flames.

The firefighters acted quickly and were able to extinguish the blaze without allowing it to spread to neighboring units. PF&R confirmed that the apartments were thoroughly searched, but no one was found inside. Unfortunately, the family of three who lived in the apartment had to leave because of the fire and will be staying with relatives until they can return home.

The reason for the fire is not yet known and an investigation is underway. This incident is a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and prompt in emergency situations and the critical role firefighters play in keeping our community safe. We should all be grateful for their bravery and dedication to their work.

Precautions should be taken to prevent fires, such as making sure smoke alarms are installed and working properly, not leaving kitchen or heating equipment unattended, and keeping flammable materials away from heat sources.
