Late Tuesday night, a deputy with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office was injured after his patrol vehicle was hit by a suspected impaired driver. The incident occurred on northbound Interstate 205 near Southeast Sunnyside Road while the deputy was on the scene of another crash.

The deputy was sitting inside his patrol vehicle, which had its emergency lights on, when the driver hit the back of the vehicle. The impact caused the patrol car to spin and land several feet off the interstate. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released to recover at home. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude that the deputy was not more seriously injured in the accident and posted about the incident on their Facebook page.

The driver, whose name has not been released, is under investigation for driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, and fourth-degree assault. Impaired driving is a serious offense that endangers the lives of everyone on the road, including law enforcement officials who are working to keep the community safe.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of sober driving and following traffic laws to prevent accidents and keep everyone safe. It also highlights the risks that law enforcement officers face while on the job, even when they are simply responding to a call or assisting at the scene of an accident.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has not released any further information about the incident at this time, but it is clear that the community is grateful for the deputy's service and wishes him a speedy recovery.
