In a tragic accident near Erwin, Tennessee, the driver of a semi-truck has been charged after a crash Sunday afternoon that killed one man and critically wounded 2 others. The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. July 2 in Unicoi County.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the driver of the vehicle, Robenson Vertus, 41, of Connecticut, was traveling westbound on I-26 when he exited the right side of the highway. He went through a grassy area, crashed into a fence and ended up hitting a car and a house. As a result of the collision, 2 residents of the house sustained critical wounds and the life of a third occupant was tragically cut short. Fortunately, Vertus sustained only slight wounds as a result of the accident. However, he was immediately apprehended by THP police on a charge of negligent homicide. After his arrest, Vertus was placed in the Unicoi County Jail in Erwin.
