On a Friday morning, Arizona first responders were called to the scene of a serious semi truck crash that resulted in two injuries. The accident occurred near Flagstaff at 5:30 a.m. on July 28th. The Ponderosa Fire Department (PFD) was quick to respond, arriving at the scene to find a semi truck that had left the westbound lane of Interstate 40. The truck had plummeted over a 30 foot embankment and landed on Naval Observatory Road. The two occupants of the semi were taken to a hospital, with one person suffering minor injuries and the other person suffering extensive injuries.
According to firefighters, the semi truck was hauling large rolls of paper when the crash occurred. Emergency and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) vehicles were present on the scene, and PFD thanked their mutual aid partners, including Flagstaff Fire Department, Guardian Medical Transport, Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. Travelers on westbound Interstate 40 near milepost 191 were advised to watch for emergency and ADOT vehicles.
The incident highlights the importance of driving safely and carefully, particularly when operating large commercial vehicles. Accidents involving semi trucks can be especially dangerous due to their size and weight, and can result in serious injuries or even fatalities. It is crucial for all drivers to remain vigilant on the roadways to prevent accidents like this from occurring.
