A 52-year-old man was recently sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty to a fatal hit-and-run accident Aug. 3, 2022, outside Rosemary Anderson High School in Gresham, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. The victim, whose name has not been released, got into a physical altercation with Donald Troy Bighouse, after which the victim got on his bicycle and rode away from Bighouse. However, Bighouse got into his car and drove at high speed in reverse, hitting the victim.

The victim died at the scene of the collision, and the Bighouse fled the scene, but was arrested two days later. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office charged Bighouse with first-degree manslaughter and failure to perform driving duties. Bighouse pleaded guilty to both charges, which led to his 19-year prison sentence. He is currently in custody and will be taken to the Oregon Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence. This incident underscores the importance of controlling one's emotions and avoiding physical collisions, as well as the serious consequences of hit-and-run accidents.

The victim's death is a tragic reminder of the importance of making responsible driving choices and taking responsibility for your actions. It also emphasizes the need for prompt reporting of crashes and the importance of being at the scene of an accident, especially if someone is injured or killed.
