A tragedy occurred last month in northeast Portland when a woman was struck by a car and later died in a hospital, according to the Portland Police Bureau. On April 25, police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast Skidmore Street, where they found the woman in critical condition after being struck by a cat. She was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, on May 7, the woman passed away from her injuries. She has been identified as 40-year-old Catherine Lyda.

This incident brings to mind the importance of pedestrian safety and paying attention to traffic signals when crossing the street. According to PPB, Lyda was crossing NE 122nd Ave. in the northbound crosswalk against the traffic signal when she was struck by a driver who was traveling northbound on NE 122nd Ave. The driver remained at the scene, and after investigating the incident, police did not arrest or prosecute him.

Pedestrian accidents can have disastrous consequences, so it is extremely important to take precautions when crossing the street. This incident also underscores the importance of drivers being mindful of their surroundings and following the rules of the road. Police have not provided any further info about the incident, and it is unknown if any charges will be filed against the driver.

In conclusion, the Northeast Portland incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of pedestrian safety and the need for both drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of their surroundings and obey traffic laws. This incident is a sobering reminder of the need to raise awareness and take action to prevent accidents and injuries on the roads and in our communities.
