A truck driver has found himself in hot water after being charged with multiple offenses in connection with a collision that left two Pennsylvania State Police troopers with serious injuries. Donald Haney Jr. is facing two felony counts of aggravated assault by a vehicle, as well as charges of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to make a U-turn safely. The charges stem from a crash that took place on May 19, 2023, at the intersection of Taylor Blvd. and Carlisle Pike in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
According to court documents, Haney was driving a semi-truck when he failed to stop at a stop sign and then attempted to make a U-turn. His truck ended up blocking all five lanes of the road, and a police cruiser with its lights and sirens activated collided with the trailer. The troopers inside the cruiser were traveling at 67 m.p.h. when the crash occurred.
The two troopers were left with severe injuries, including facial fractures, a broken arm, and a broken jaw. It was later revealed that Haney was trying to navigate to his next delivery location and didn't see the police cruiser until it was too late. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers that truck drivers face on the road, as well as the importance of following traffic rules and regulations. Haney's case serves as a reminder that even seemingly minor traffic violations can have serious consequences.
As for the injured troopers, they continue to recover from their injuries and are receiving support from their colleagues and loved ones. While the road to recovery may be long and difficult, they can take comfort in knowing that justice is being served and that steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
