Four people were arrested in a major drug operation at an apartment building in Dickinson late Sunday. The Southwest Narcotics Task Force, along with a SWAT team, issued a search warrant for the apartment of Aaron Baker, 42, who was being investigated.
As the team approached the building, they spotted Baker leaving the scene in a car. However, the officers were able to stop him before he could get away. Meanwhile, the upstairs neighbor began stomping on the floor to alert the residents of the apartment below that the law enforcement team was approaching.
The SWAT team entered the building and found two people inside, 45-year-old Demetris Askew and 44-year-old Willie McCully. Both were apprehended without incident. A subsequent search of the apartment revealed a pound of methamphetamine, 66 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of marijuana, fentanyl pills, $18,000 in cash and a stolen firearm. Police suspect the extra drugs were flushed down the toilet before SWAT entered the apartment.
All three people found in the apartment, Baker, Askew and McCalley, were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, as well as other charges. A neighbor who tried to warn those in the apartment was also arrested for obstructing law enforcement.
