Police in Grand Island, Nebraska are recently investigating the stealing of a significant amount of beef from a local meatpacking plant. On Tuesday, March 28, JBS Foods reported that an entire trailer of fresh meat was stolen from the plant and never made it to its scheduled delivery location. The stolen beef was valued at $275,000 and was destined for Virginia.

Authorities are working tirelessly to recover the stolen meat and identify those responsible for the robbery. However, the truck and trailer carrying the beef stopped transmitting GPS information, making it difficult for police to track down the suspects. Police have asked the public for any information that might help recover the stolen meat.

According to local media outlet KSNB, a legal subcontracted trucking company picked up a load of beef from the JBS plant on March 20. However, the name of the company has not been released because it is cooperating with investigators on the case. Police are conducting a thorough investigation to see if there was any foul play on the part of the trucking company or if they were unwittingly involved in the theft.

Authorities have clarified that this cargo theft is unrelated to a string of meat heists that have occurred in the Midwest since June 2021. About $9 million worth of beef and pork was stolen in 45 cargo thefts in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. In October 2022, 3 Miami residents were busted and charged with money laundering and transportation of stolen goods in connection with this meat theft scheme.

The theft of $275,000 worth of beef dealt a serious blow to JBS Foods, and police have assured the company that they are doing everything they can to recover the stolen meat and bring the perpetrators to justice. For now, we are left to wait as authorities work around the clock to solve the case and recover the stolen meat.
