Tragedy struck a small Minnesota community last week when a 14-year-old boy, Hunter Flaxbeard, was found buried in a sand hole. Despite efforts by local deputies to save him, Hunter tragically died two days later in the hospital. An investigation into the incident found that his death was caused by accidental suffocation.
The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on March 28 reporting that a young boy was stuck in a sand hole and covered with sand in a rural area. Authorities rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue him, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. The community has been left mourning the loss of this “kind and compassionate” teenager.
The tragedy has also prompted an investigation into safety protocols for sand holes. Authorities are looking into ways to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
Despite the heartbreak, Hunter's family has found solace in the fact that his organs were able to be donated. They believe that this is something that he would have been proud of and are honoring his legacy in this way.
