Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a 55-year-old bicyclist lost his life after being hit by a pickup truck on Highway 221. The incident occurred near milepost 11.5, prompting emergency crews to respond to the scene just before 11:30 a.m. According to Oregon State Police, Adam Joy of Portland was riding southbound on Highway 221 when he fell over into the lane of travel and was subsequently hit by a passing 2021 Ford F-350. Tragically, Joy died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Ford remained on the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation, according to OSP. However, the incident caused a significant impact on traffic in the area for approximately six hours while authorities conducted their investigation.

This unfortunate event is yet another reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all drivers to remain vigilant while on the roads. Even a momentary lapse in focus can have devastating consequences, as evidenced by this tragic accident. It is crucial that all drivers prioritize safety and exercise caution at all times, particularly when sharing the road with vulnerable road users such as bicyclists.

Our hearts go out to Adam Joy's family and loved ones during this difficult time. We hope that this serves as a reminder to all drivers to prioritize safety and remain vigilant while on the roads. Let us work together to prevent tragedies like this from happening again in the future.
