On Tuesday, May 16th, a fatal accident occurred in Whitfield County, Georgia when a winch bar, forgotten and unsecured on a flatbed trailer, flew off and crashed through the windshield of a car. The victim, Lynn Fleming, tragically did not survive the accident. The incident occurred on Interstate 75, causing a portion of the roadway to be shut down for an hour while medics attended to the victim.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident could have been easily avoided if proper measures were taken to secure the load on the flatbed trailer. "This situation is very tragic and could have been so simply avoided," said Scotty Smith, a representative for the Georgia State Patrol. The incident is a reminder of the importance of properly securing loads on trailers and trucks, as failure to do so can have devastating consequences.
It is unclear whether any citations were issued in connection to the incident. The truck driver involved in the incident was not harmed. The tragic event serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of following safety protocols when transporting goods on the highway, and the responsibility that comes with every driver's duty to ensure their cargo is properly secured before taking to the road.
