Tragedy struck on the afternoon of August 2nd in Routt County, Colorado, as a devastating accident unfolded on Rabbit Ears Pass. The incident resulted in the ejection of two individuals from a semi truck, leading to their untimely demise. The accident occurred between County Road 20 and Forest Service Road 296, approximately seven miles east of Steamboat Springs, leaving the community in mourning.

According to reliable sources from Steamboat Pilot News, the semi truck was traveling in a westerly direction on US 40 when the driver approached a curve at an excessive speed, subsequently losing control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the road, rolling and jackknifing in the process. The violent motion resulted in the ejection of both the driver and the passenger from the truck, tragically leading to their immediate fatalities. The scene was marked by immense sadness and the loss of two precious lives.

While investigations are still ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that impairment was not a contributing factor in the accident. However, excessive speed is suspected to be the primary cause of the wreck. The deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Bernardo Rodrigues Aldapa and 40-year-old April Elizabeth Baca, whose lives were tragically cut short in this unfortunate incident.
