Authorities in Oakdale, California are investigating a fatal workplace accident that occurred in the early hours of June 14 at the ConAgra Foods facility. The incident claimed the life of 27-year-old Ismael Carrillo-Garcia, who had reportedly delivered a load of empty cans to the plant and was inside his trailer moving pallets to help a forklift driver more easily retrieve them.
According to reports, the forklift driver noticed that the truck was rolling forward and called out to Carrillo-Garcia to let him know. In an attempt to stop the moving truck, Carrillo-Garcia exited the trailer and ran towards it. However, he reportedly tripped and fell, and was run over by the moving truck. Sadly, Carrillo-Garcia died at the scene.
The incident has sparked an investigation by the Oakdale Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
