The accident unfolded on June 26th at approximately 6 a.m. along Highway 69, near Reed Ice Company and the Buy and Bye store. 61-year-old Edward Joseph Farkas Sr., an experienced trucker, had stopped on the side of the freeway due to some mechanical problems. Seeking a moment of rest, he momentarily stepped out of his vehicle, unaware that his loyal trucker pet, Buddy, had slipped away from the cab. Without hesitation, Farkas embarked on a desperate chase to retrieve his beloved companion.

Tragically, fate dealt a cruel blow as both Farkas and Buddy were struck by an overhead vehicle, resulting in their untimely demise. Edward, Farkas' son, shared that his father had retired from full-time trucking but continued to live in his car, occasionally taking on jobs to supplement his income.

In the wake of this devastating loss, Edward expressed his determination to honor his father's memory. "I won't sell his truck. I'll restore it, just as he had envisioned. Any contributions received will be dedicated to covering the cremation expenses and fulfilling his final wish of returning to Louisiana, where his ashes will be scattered in his beloved location," he shared, his voice filled with grief.
