A truck driver found himself in hot water last week after New York State Police (NYSP) discovered illegal firearms during an inspection on the NYS Thruway. The incident occurred on Friday, April 7, when NYSP troopers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit were conducting oversized vehicle inspections on I-90 in the town of Dunkirk. During the inspection of a 2007 Peterbilt registered in Arkansas, troopers found a Ruger Wrangler .22LR revolver in the driver’s side door compartment and a Glock 23 located in the sleeping area of the truck. The Glock held a fully loaded 13 round magazine. The truck driver, identified as Luis Corona Jr., 26, did not have a New York State pistol permit, according to a NYSP Troop T news release. Corona was arrested and indicted on two felony counts Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (large capacity ammunition feeding device). He was taken into custody and booked into the Chautauqua County Jail.

This incident highlights the importance of following state laws regarding firearms possession, particularly when traveling across state lines. The NYSP takes these violations seriously and will not hesitate to arrest and charge individuals who violate state laws. Truck drivers should be aware of the laws in each state they travel through and ensure that any firearms they possess are legally registered and permitted in those states.

It is also important for truck drivers to be aware of the potential consequences of violating state laws. In this case, Corona is facing serious felony charges that could result in significant fines and jail time if convicted. These consequences can have a major impact on an individual’s career and personal life, making it essential to adhere to state laws and regulations at all times.

Truck drivers should also be aware that commercial vehicles are subject to regular inspections by law enforcement officials. Any illegal items discovered during these inspections can lead to serious charges and penalties, including fines, license suspensions, and even vehicle impoundment. It is essential for truck drivers to maintain compliance with all laws and regulations to avoid these types of consequences.

In conclusion, the arrest of Luis Corona Jr. serves as a reminder of the importance of following state laws and regulations regarding firearms possession while traveling. Truck drivers should take the necessary steps to ensure they are compliant with all state laws and regulations to avoid serious legal consequences.
