A close call on a North Carolina highway was caught on camera by a truck driver's dash cam. The footage, which was shared on TikTok by user @chris_g98 and has been viewed over 2.2 million times, shows a pickup truck from Baker Roofing Company experiencing a blowout on the back right tire. The driver loses control and veers off the road into a grassy area before making it back onto the roadway.

The pickup finally comes to a stop blocking the right shoulder and the right lane, but the dash cam driver is able to bring his truck to a safe stop and avoid a collision. The quick thinking of the driver prevented a potentially deadly accident from occurring.

In response to the incident, Baker Roofing Company praised its driver for his quick reaction to the tire blowout and thanked the dash cam driver for his awareness and defensive driving. The video serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for unexpected situations while on the road.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), tire blowouts are responsible for thousands of crashes each year. To prevent these types of accidents, it is important to regularly check tire pressure and tread depth, as well as to avoid overloading a vehicle. In the event of a tire blowout, the NHTSA advises drivers to hold the steering wheel firmly and ease off the gas pedal, avoid braking suddenly, and try to maintain control of the vehicle until it can be safely brought to a stop.

The close call in North Carolina highlights the importance of practicing defensive driving and being aware of potential hazards on the road.
