A vehicle driver in Indiana was taken into custody following a collision between two vehicles on I-70. The crash occurred on May 11th at approximately 11:25 a.m. in Putnam County. Indiana State Police reported that Benjamin Polk was operating a 2021 Freightliner heading west on I-70 when he tried to pass a 2015 semi-truck driven by Jean Cadet nearly mile mark 32. Polk slammed into the back of Cadet's vehicle and then scraped it along the side. Upon arrival at the incident, Master Trooper Bradbury found signs of damage in Polk and he apparently declined to take a chemical test. Polk was then taken to a medical facility to receive treatment for his injuries resulting from the accident. The Cloverdale Volunteer Fire Department, Curtis Wrecker Service, and Putnam County EMS were among the other agencies that responded to the incident.

This incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of road safety. Impaired driving is a serious offense that can have devastating consequences, including injuries, fatalities, and legal repercussions. Drivers should always prioritize safety on the roads and never get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Indiana State Police acted quickly to apprehend the driver and prevent any further harm. The responding agencies, including the Cloverdale Volunteer Fire Department, Curtis Wrecker Service, and Putnam County EMS, also played a critical role in responding to the scene and ensuring the safety of those involved. As we continue to navigate the challenges of our roads, it is important to remember that we all have a responsibility to prioritize safety and take steps to prevent accidents and injuries. This includes following traffic laws, avoiding distractions while driving, and never driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. By working together and taking these steps, we can help to keep our roads safe and prevent incidents from occurring.
