Over the weekend, a truck driver from Florida found himself in a precarious situation when his truck became lodged on the infamous Smugglers Notch segment of Vermont Route 108 in Cambridge, Vermont. Upon arrival, troopers made contact with the truck driver, 36-year-old Yusnier Anuez from Florida City, Florida. Anuez admitted that he had ignored multiple signs prohibiting tractor trailers from entering the Notch, as he had been blindly following his GPS. Despite the warnings from bystanders attempting to prevent him from entering, Anuez continued on his ill-fated path.

The situation quickly escalated, leading to the closure of the roadway for several hours while authorities worked to remove the stuck truck with the assistance of a tow truck. As a result of his reckless actions, Anuez was issued multiple tickets totaling a staggering $3,544.00 in fines. This incident comes on the heels of a proposed bill by Vermont lawmakers earlier this year, which aims to hold GPS providers accountable for incidents involving stuck tractor trailers in the Notch. The bill seeks to impose fines on GPS providers as a deterrent to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
