A tragic accident on the night of June 10 claimed the life of one truck operator and left another critically injured. The incident happened close to Ina, Illinois, about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, June 10. According to Illinois State Police (ISP), a truck traveling southbound on I-57 near mile marker 83 crossed the dividing lane and collided with a second truck traveling northbound on I-57.

The collision between the two trucks was so severe that both vehicles caught fire, resulting in significant damage and injuries. Unfortunately, one of the drivers died at the scene of the accident and the other was airlifted to a nearby hospital with major wounds.

As a result of the accident, the northbound lane of I-57 was closed for nearly twelve hours, until about 10:30 Sunday morning. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the accident and prevent similar accidents in the future.

This tragic incident is a reminder of the importance of following traffic laws and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. It also underscores the need for truck drivers to be properly trained and educated in safety measures and protocols to make sure they are prepared to handle difficulties on the road. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating incident. May they find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
