On Sunday, May 14th, a dramatic crash in Oklahoma City was caught on camera and shared by the Oklahoma City Fire Department. The footage shows the heroic actions of the responding firefighters as they rescued a trucker and his son from a dangerous situation.
According to Scott Douglas, a member of the Oklahoma City Fire Department, the crash occurred when a motorist cut the trucker off, causing the rig to hang off of Interstate 44 over Pennsylvania Avenue. The wet conditions on the roadway due to rainfall made it easy for the large vehicle to lose control.
Despite the challenging conditions, the firefighters were able to safely evacuate the father and son from the rig. The video shows them carefully walking on a slick ladder to reach the victims and bring them back down to safety.
“We just had to be more cautious and more slow with the rainfall because the ladder they were walking on to evacuate the semi was slick, too,” Douglas explained. “So, we took extra time with the footing being a little bit in case our footing slipped. We just took extra time extricating these victims yesterday.” Thanks to the quick actions of the firefighters, both the trucker and his son were able to survive the terrifying crash without any injuries. The Oklahoma City Fire Department shared the incredible footage of the rescue, which has since gone viral and garnered widespread praise for the bravery and dedication of the firefighters involved.
This incident serves as a reminder of the important work that first responders do every day to keep our communities safe. Despite facing difficult and dangerous situations, they remain committed to protecting and serving those in need.
