Authorities in Maine are investigating a fiery multi-vehicle crash that occurred on the Maine Turnpike in Saco. The incident happened on Thursday, April 13, at 10:30 p.m., and involved two semi trucks and a black Ford Explorer. According to the Maine State Police (MSP), the crash was caused by the driver of the Explorer attempting to take the exit at the last minute, clipping the side by side truck. This caused the truck to be struck by the Explorer and sent it careering into the middle lane. Unfortunately, the 2nd vehicle was not able to avoid the flatbed truck and collided with it, resulting in both vehicles catching fire. Both trucks were considered total losses, but luckily neither driver was hurt. However, Fidele Kaderi, the driver of the Explorer, suffered non life-threatening injuries and had to be hospitalized. The incident resulted in the southbound Maine Turnpike being closed for four hours.
Incidents like these are a stark reminder of the importance of driver safety and adherence to traffic rules.Taking an exit at the last minute can cause a chain of events that can lead to accidents and casualties such as these. It is crucial that drivers prioritize safety, even when in a hurry.
MSP are currently investigating the incident, and charges may be pending as a result. As the investigation continues, Maine State Police will be working hard to determine the exact cause of the crash and to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future.
