The Vancouver Fire Department was called Monday to respond to a catastrophic fire that engulfed several houses and a store. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at 6619 NE 56th Way in Vancouver. Officials said strong easterly winds were the main cause of concern, as the fire was spreading quickly and threatened to spill over onto Andresen Boulevard. Nine units from the Vancouver Fire Department and Fire District 6 were sent to the scene to contain the fire. Crews had to use 3 different engines to fight the blaze, which had spread to several homes and a store. Because of the strong winds, Vancouver firefighters had to call in several additional fire engines. The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, and authorities are conducting a thorough inquiry to determine its origin.
