A truck driver narrowly escaped tragedy after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a dam in Wilmington, Vermont. The accident occurred July 3, just before 9 a.m., when David Miller, 53, a truck operator from New York City, was driving a 2020 Mack Truck with an empty 53-foot refrigerated trailer.

According to the police, Miller drove off the VT Route 9 roadway about 300 feet, crossed Oxbow Loop, and then drove off a 20-foot cliff and fell into Harriman Reservoir. During the accident, the tractor disconnected from the trailer, leaving Miller stranded in the flooded tractor.

Miraculously, Miller managed to free himself from the sinking truck and swam to shore, where he clung to a tree. When the first rescuers arrived at the accident, they found an empty crate trailer swimming in the reservoir. Miller was quickly saved and taken to a nearby clinic for treatment of his wounds. The truck and trailer were successfully lifted out of the water by 5 p.m. that afternoon. Authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the accident to find out what led to this horrific incident.
