Tragedy struck southeast Portland on Saturday evening when a car careened into a bus stop, resulting in the loss of a life, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau. The fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Southeast Taylor Street, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement authorities. At approximately 6:30 p.m., police received multiple reports of a crash, prompting them to swiftly arrive at the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed, overturning onto the sidewalk and crashing through a bus stop. Unfortunately, one individual, who had been patiently waiting for the bus, tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

In a display of responsibility, the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and fortunately, emerged unharmed from the crash. This allowed officers to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and gather relevant information surrounding the incident. In light of the ongoing investigation, the authorities have taken precautionary measures to ensure public safety. They have announced the closure of Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard in both directions, spanning from Southeast Yamhill Street to Southeast Salmon Street. This temporary disruption aims to facilitate the investigation and ensure that all necessary steps are taken to determine the cause and circumstances of this devastating incident.
