In the early hours of Saturday morning, two Portland police officers were struck by a suspected drunk driver in northeast Portland. The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. when the officers, responding to a call, were hit by another vehicle on Northeast Glisan Street. The patrol vehicle was struck by the car attempting to pass it on the right, causing significant damage to both vehicles. After the collision, the officers quickly checked on the occupants of the other car. Fortunately, neither the driver nor passenger sustained any injuries. However, the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, and the officers subsequently took him into custody for DUII processing.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, a 17-year-old male, had a blood alcohol content of 0.15%, well above the legal limit for driving. While his name has not been released, he now faces serious charges for his reckless behavior. The incident highlights the dangers of drunk driving and the importance of responsible behavior on the road. It also serves as a reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day while serving their communities.
Fortunately, in this case, the officers involved in the collision were able to receive medical attention and were later released from the hospital. However, incidents like this one serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the need for all drivers to take responsibility for their actions on the road. By doing so, we can help prevent tragedies like this one from occurring in our communities.
