In the early hours of Monday morning, a fire broke out at the Cedar Court Apartments in Hillsboro, resulting in multiple people being displaced. The Hillsboro Fire Department responded to the incident just before 6:30 a.m. and found that one apartment unit was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the fire caused smoke and water damage to an adjacent unit. One resident of the complex, Lupe Maldonado, recounted her experience of the incident to FOX 12. She was about to get ready for work when she heard her mother shouting that there was a fire. Initially thinking it was a joke, Lupe soon realized the seriousness of the situation when she heard people screaming to evacuate the building. Upon opening her door, she saw that the apartment unit next to hers was ablaze.

The fire was contained to one apartment unit, but four adults, five children, and two dogs were displaced as a result. Officials have determined that the cause of the fire was combustible material ignited by a baseboard heater. Fires such as this serve as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in residential buildings. It is crucial for residents to have working smoke detectors and to know how to evacuate a building in case of a fire. Additionally, it is important to keep flammable materials away from heat sources and to ensure that heating equipment is properly maintained.
